before it all fell

alex walked through town with his mom like he always did.the streets were filled with everyday life-cars passing by,pepole talking ,music playing from nearby stores.everyone living like nothing could ever change

and for alex it was just another normal day.

he walked beside his mom, causally looking around while making his usual sarcastic comments. his mom, jess, rolled her eyes at half of the things he said, but she couldn't hide her smile on her face.

eventually, they reached their usual spot; a small diner called pete's greasy foods.

it wasn't the fanciest place in town, but it was familiar. the kind of where everyone knew the menu and workers recognized regular customers. it felt safe.

the two of them sat down and ordered their food. while they waited, alex leaned back in his seat and stared out the window, watching people walk by.

after a few moments, he looked over at his mom.

''so, mom,'' alex said with a mischievous grin,''you and dad gonna get funky or what?''

jess froze for a second before laughing.

''alex,''she said, giving him a look,'' seriously?''

''what?''alex replied, pretending to be confused.''im just asking.''

jess smiled.

''don't you wanna know?''

the second those words left her mouth, alex made a disguised face.

''ugh. nop. forget i even asked.''

jess laughed again, the sound filling the small booth.

''your impossible, '' she said.

alex just shrugged.''that's why you love me.''

his mom smiled, but after a moment her expression softened.

'' you know, alex,''jess said quietly,'' me and your dad aren't gonna going to be around forever.''

alex looked her

''eventually, you're gonna have to take care of yourself. you're going to have to live your own life, your own responsibility. ''

she smiled warmly.

''your growing up.''

for once, alex didn't immediately have a sarcastic response.

he looked down for a moment, thinking about what she said.

but before he could answer, a strange noise came from outside.

at first, nobody paid attention

then came another

a scream

everyone inside the diner turned towards the windows.

people were running through the streets.

confused voices filled the air.

''what's happening?''

then someone screamed louder.

''run!''

alex stood up.

his joking disappeared.

suddenly, a massive explosion ripped through the streets.

the entire diner shook as nearby buildings burst apart.glass shattered.smoke filled the air . pieces of the buildings came crashing down onto the street.

everyone panicked.

people secreamed as they rushed for the exits, knocking over tables and chairs.

alex didn't hesitate.

he grabbed his mom's arm.

''mom,'' we need to leave now.''

they pushed their way outside with the crowd, trying to get away from the destruction.

but then alex saw it.

something moved through the smoke.

something stepped out of the remains of the fallen building.

a creature.

not an animal not a person.

something ccompletely unkown.

the monster looked around the chaos it had caused, and for the first time in his life , alex felt real fear.

he didn't make a joke.

he didn't say anthing sarcastic.

''run!''

jess looked at him, terrified, but followed.

as they run through the streets, alex looked back one last time.

meanwhile on the far side of town before the monsters got their.

luna walked through town with the wind gently blowing through her white hair. her red eyes were hidden behind a pair of sunglasses as she walked beside her little brother caleb.

to anyone else, they proably looked like any normal siblings spending time together.

but loona knew the truth.

their life was far from normal.

they were heading to the mall to buy caleb new clothes for school. it was something that should have been simple, something any kid should feel exicted about.

but the real reason they were their was because their mother was once again on another weekly bender.

luna had gotten use to it.

she had gotten use to being the responsible one.

the one who made sure he was okay.

as they entered the mall, the bright lights and busy crowds surrounded them. People laughed, shopped, and carried on with their day.

luna led caleb towards the clothes section.

''come on,caleb ,'' luna said, looking at him with a small smile.''pick out some clothes for school.''

she gently patted his head.

caleb's face lit up immediately.

''okay,big sis!''

he ran towards the racks of clothes, excitedly looking through everything.

luna smiled as she watched him.

for a moment, she froget about everything else.

she forgot about their mother.

luna pulled out her phone while keeping an eye on him.

then a notification appeared.

a text from her mother.

luna opened it.

when you useless brats get done whatever your doing, buy me more beer.im out.

her smile disappeared.

she stared at the message.

the anger in her eyes grew as she clenched her phone.

after everything luna did, after everything she sacificed, her mother still only cared about herself.

luna typed back.

''screw you and your beer.get it yourself.''

she locked her phone and put it away, trying not let her anger ruin calebs day.

a few mintus later, caleb ran back over with a pile of clothes and the biggest smile on his face.

''look,big sis! i picked these!''

luna looked at the clothes, then at him.

a small smile returned.

''not,bad,''she said teasingly.

caleb grinned.

'' i knew you liked them.''

after they finsished shopping, luna took caleb to the resturant area of the mall. they sat down together and ate, enjoying the rare peaceful moment.

luna looked across the table.

''so, you happy with your fashion choices?''

she smirked.

''of course, big sis! i picked them out myself.''

luna laughed softly.

but the moment didn't last.

a terrifying scream echoed loudly threw the mall.

the entire place went silent.

luna's expression changed instantly.

something was wrong.

she stood up.

''caleb...''

before she could finish, another scream followed.

this one was closer.

people started runing.

panic spread through the mall as everyone ran in different directions.

Luna grabbed calebs hand.

" stay with me."

They ran through the crowd, trying to escape.

Then they saw it.

Luna stopped.

Her body froze.

Standing in the middle of the mall was something that shouldn't exist.

A massive creature.

It looked almost like a dog,but twisted into something terrifying.its body was covered in fur and scales. It's calws looked like blades, and it's tail moved like a whip, destroying everything around it.

People screamed as it attacked.

The creature tore through the mall like nothing could stop it.

For the first time in a long time, luna felt true fear.

But then she looked at caleb.

And the fear disappeared.

She grabbed him and pulled him close.

" don't look caleb."

As she covered his eyes as they ran.

" everything is going to be okay."

But caleb voice shook.

" big sis, what's going on,"

Luna didn't answer.

Because she didn't know.

They pushed through the doors and escaped outside.

But the world waiting for them, wasn't the one they left.

Buildings were falling down.

Cars were Abandoned in the streets.

The roads where cracked and destroyed.

All monsters shapes and sizes were running through the city.

The world was breaking apart.

Luna held caleb tighter.

The life they knew was gone.

And the fallen of humanity had begun.
