A Rude Awakening

I awoke suddenly to the sound of footsteps. The room around me is dark and in disrepair. My head is pounding. Where am I? What am I doing here? --Who am I? I push myself off the ground my muscles aching. What was I doing here? My eyes begin to adjust to the lack of light. I'm in a dining room, there's a large wooden table in front of me, a china hutch to my left, an arched entryway behind me, and letting in a sliver of light a door that is ajar. Chairs and glassware is strewn around the room.

I hear the footsteps again. Thump, thump, thump. My aching head not able to pick up the direction of the sound. All I know is each time I hear those steps my heart pounds harder as though something deep inside feels as though I'm being hunted. I walk toward the door with the light. At least I may be able to find someone else.

While stepping across the debris covered floor I hear the sound of footsteps again this time accompanied by the sound of a tune being whistled. It sounds so familiar. The new sound startles me I slip on a broken and trip over a chair trying to recover. Here we are, back on the ground.

I hear the whistling again. It's closer. I turn around on my knees crunching the glass beneath me and look to the arched entryway. I see the silhouette of a tall figure with large pointed ears. I start standing up so I can back away more easily.

The figure approaches. As it approaches the light is able to cast over it and I am able to make out the form. The figure appears to be male in a full black suit with a large white bunny head mask with red eyes and red splatters on its face. His hands are cover with gloves I assumed used to be white if they weren't dripping in red in his right hand he held an iron fire-poker to his side. Seeing me he cocked his head to the side and started to quicken his pace.

Confused and scared I ran through the lit door into what I discovered was the kitchen. The adrenaline kicked in and I didn't observe anything in the kitchen. My brain's only objective was to run. I rushed out of a swinging door into a dark hallway. To my left was a large dark room, to my right was more hallway, angled away were stairs.

I bolted to the right down the hall. There has to be an exit this way. Why am I here? Who was that? Who am I?
