May

"Thank you, Margaretta," I said to the child foster and adoption center secretary.

"Your welcome, Miss Swan," Margaretta said as she turned to the ten-year-old next to her. She whispered to her like she was sharing a secret, "You have the last name now May. How about that. May Swan?"
"May," She pointed to herself, "Swan." She gestured between the both of us. "Me and Momma. Us. I like it."
"Good to know," I said, my amused face masking the surprise I felt at her calling me Momma already. "Well, we ought to be going huh..?"
After we got outside we headed for the parking lot section three where I had parked my deep blue Mercedes- Benz. It was fast, quiet, and deep blue. What else do you need?

"Wow! You must be rich!" May exclaimed as we climbed into the car.
"Haha, no but my brother, Marius, is and loves to buy me expensive things." I glanced at May to make sure she was buckled as I backed up. "Speaking of which, would you mind meeting him and the rest of your new family?" With a look in the rearview mirror, I concluded, "It's only a few minutes. Plus there's dinner."
Her eyes shone brightly. Such pretty eyes. They were sea blue ringed with gold. Her hair was a pretty curtain of russet.
"Who's gonna be there?" Her eyes held so much intensity.
"Well," I started as I turned a corner. "Marius, his wife Lynda and his kids Jakob, who is sixteen, Leah, she's fourteen, and Markus who will be eleven in a week. My mom and dad will be there. And my older sister Anita and her two-year-old, Dylan. My mom's name is Rhea and my father's Henrick." I looked at her through the rearview mirror, "You can call them whatever you like though they would love it if you called them aunt, uncle, grandma, and grandpa."
"Ok but that's a lot of people," May said simply, and a bit nervously, as we pulled into the driveway.
"Yes, but there aren't many others so don't worry."

user-tYYAB62Jw9: I loved your/this story, thank you 😊 . Look forward to more writings. I was so invested in the kids. Curious who or which one is Annie's mate. Maybe Dylan since Collin is a werewolf. Although she'd also make a good Luna. Smiles 🙂
