The rain poured heavily as Ava Williams stood outside the hospital, staring at the unpaid medical bill in her trembling hands.
₦18,000,000.
Her mother’s surgery had to happen within forty-eight hours.
She had borrowed from everyone she knew.
No one could help.
Her phone rang.
“Miss Ava?”
“Yes?”
“My name is James. I work for Mr. Adrian Knight.”
“I don’t know any Adrian Knight.”
“You’ll know him in fifteen minutes.”
A black Rolls-Royce stopped in front of her.
James opened the door.
Inside sat the richest man in the country.
Adrian Knight.
Thirty-one years old.
Cold.
Powerful.
Feared by everyone.
He looked at her without smiling.
“I’ll pay every hospital bill.”
Ava’s eyes widened.
“What do you want in return?”
“Marry me.”
Silence.
She laughed.
“I’m serious.”
“You don’t even know me.”
“I don’t need to.”
“I need a wife.”
“For one year.”
“No love.”
“No questions.”
“No divorce until the contract ends.”
“If you agree…”
He pushed a document toward her.
“…your mother’s surgery happens tonight.”
A tear rolled down Ava’s cheek.
She looked toward the hospital.
Then back at Adrian.
Slowly…
She picked up the pen.
At that exact moment…
Across the city…
Someone watched security footage of the meeting.
A woman smiled.
“So…”
“You finally found her.”
She picked up an old photograph.
It showed Adrian.
Ava.
And a house burning in the background.
She whispered,
“They still don’t remember…”
“But they will.”
