Summary

Born without a digital identity, Maeve Vesper—the feared Scarlett Executioner—is a ghost to the tyrannical Algorithm ruling the city. But when a surprise drone sweep catches her off guard, her auburn hair blows her cover, forcing her into a desperate alliance with Ezekiel, a brilliant hacker who locks his signature to hers to hide her off-grid biology.Alongside Trixie, a pink-haired rogue hiding a dark past behind a prototype sniper rifle, they launch a high-voltage heist at the Neon Souk data-hub. The prize? Master codes to the city's satellites, and a shocking truth about Maeve’s past that shatters her entire reality.When their stolen files hijack the city’s three-story billboards, the truth ignites a violent civilian uprising. It also reveals an encrypted trail left by her family, leading past automated border turrets and straight into the toxic, forbidden Badlands.Before they escape through a subterranean waste chute at dawn, the magnetic, intoxicating friction with Ezekiel threatens to blow Maeve’s hyper-focus. Desperate for a lifeline, she slips away to visit The Widows—a lethal league of undercover female operatives. But as they expose a terrifying new presence closing in from the dark, Maeve must conquer her past, accept her protective partner, and ride into the dead zone forever.

A Lawless Genisis {Introduction}

Mist Arises; A flash of red is hardly visible as it crosses the side of the old Arenes clocktower. She leapt over rooftop after rooftop, her boots forced the concrete to create an abrupt heavy screech instantly ending after her next leap, the slight breeze carried the smell of wet asphalt as the leaves disintegrated underneath her during her fervid escape. The intense hot and savory aromas of charcoal smoke, grilling meat, deep-fried food, and strong spices entangled themselves in her nares. The sweet Herbal scent of cinnamon, vanilla, fresh herbs, and fruits, could sweep you off your feet. A Bakery down the street displayed fresh bread and pastries, you could almost taste them through the window. Raw, wet market goods such as fish and meat, were being sold at such unreasonable prices, people negotiated the costs as if their lives depended on it, and in the middle of it all, stood Maeve. Quietly existing, her identity unknown to anyone.

In this version of the future, the cityscape is divided by elevation. While the wealthy resided in towers above the clouds, the rest of society lived in the shadows at the base of these structures. Perpetual twilight splattered across town, the sun rarely reached ground level due to the density of the massive buildings above. The streets were illuminated by flickering holographic advertisements and neon signs. The architecture contained a mix of old brick structures and modular metal compartments in shared buildings converted into living spaces, though the wealthy lived in modern ray lit apartments and towers. The city resembled a vertical labyrinth of metal and concrete. The weather was always a constant mist or light drizzle that kept the pavement damp, reflecting an abundance of neon lights like a dark mirror.
