The Circle Closes

The chain-link fence dug into Markum’s spine through his shirt, the diamond pattern pressing into his skin with each small shift. He could feel every ridge, every cold intersection of wire, as if the fence was mapping his body for the moment he’d replay for the rest of his life. Marcus’s hand twisted deeper into his collar, the fabric cutting into the back of his neck, knuckles grinding against his throat.

Somewhere across the field, a ball thudded against a goalpost. Distant. Normal. A sound from a world that still had rules.

“Stop squirming, Chen.” Marcus’s breath was hot against his ear, sour and thick. “You wanted to cross the field. Here you are.”

Markum’s hands found the fence behind him, fingers curling through the chain-link. The metal was warm from the afternoon sun. He held on like it could anchor him to something steady.

Six feet away, Roxy’s blouse lay crumpled at her heels. White fabric against gray asphalt. She stood in her black bra and skirt, her arms at her sides, her chin lifted like she was still deciding whether to be afraid. Her dark hair caught the light, and the sun glowed against her brown skin, and Markum wanted to close his eyes but couldn’t.

Damien stepped forward. His cleats scraped against the asphalt, a slow, deliberate sound. He hooked his thumb under the strap of her black bra, not pulling, just resting there, his grin spreading like something he’d been saving.

“Look at you,” Damien said, soft enough that Markum barely heard it. “Standing here like you got a choice.”

Roxy’s jaw tightened. “I made my choice.”

“Yeah.” Damien’s thumb moved along the strap, tracing it toward her shoulder. “You did.”

Behind him, Kevin let out a low whistle, long and appreciative. The sound hung in the air, and Tyrone laughed—a short, hungry noise that cut through the afternoon like glass.

“Man,” Kevin said, bouncing on his heels, his hands shoved in the pockets of his practice shorts. “She ain’t playin’.”

Jalen stood with his arms crossed, his stocky frame still, nodding once. Slow. Like he was giving permission no one had asked for.

“Shut up,” Damien said, and the laughter died. He didn’t look away from Roxy. “I want to hear her.”

The bra strap was still hooked on his thumb. He hadn’t pulled it yet, hadn’t done anything. Just stood there, letting the moment stretch, letting Roxy feel the weight of what was coming.

Markum’s fingers tightened on the fence. “Roxy—”

“I said shut the fuck up.” Marcus yanked his collar, twisting the fabric until it pressed against his windpipe. The fence bit deeper into his back. “You’re here to watch, not talk.”

Roxy’s eyes flicked to him. Just for a second. A flash of something—don’t. Don’t make it worse. Then she looked back at Damien, and her fingers moved to her other bra strap, sliding it down her shoulder before he could ask.

“Slower,” Damien said.

Her fingers froze.

The word hung between them, and Markum felt the weight of it settle into his chest. Slower. Not stop. Not no. Slower.

Roxy’s breath was shallow, and Markum watched her chest rise and fall under the black lace. She was calculating, he could see it—the way her eyes went distant for half a second before she moved again. Her fingers found the strap, and she slid it down her shoulder, an inch at a time, the fabric catching on her skin before releasing.

Damien didn’t move his thumb. He let her do it herself.

The strap slipped past her shoulder and hung loose against her arm. Her other hand moved to the front of the bra, fingers finding the clasp between her breasts. She paused there, her fingertips pressing into the fabric, and Markum could see her hands trembling. The only part of her that shook.

“Keep going,” Damien said, his voice low, almost gentle. Like he was coaxing something out of her.

Roxy’s fingers worked the clasp. One side. Then the other. The fabric loosened, and she held it against her chest with her arms, the straps already hanging down her shoulders.

No one spoke.

The distant thud of the ball against the goalpost had stopped. The field was quiet. The whole world had stopped to watch Roxy Vega let her bra fall.

Damien’s thumb pressed against the strap still hooked there, and he tugged it, just slightly, just enough to pull the fabric away from her skin. The black lace lifted, and Markum saw the first curve of her breast—brown skin, softer than anything he’d ever touched, exposed to the afternoon sun and five pairs of eyes.

Roxy’s arms didn’t move. She held the bra in place, her elbows pressed against her sides, and Markum could see the muscle in her jaw working, the way she was swallowing down everything she wanted to say.

“Arms up,” Damien said.

She didn’t move.

Kevin scraped his sole against the asphalt, restless, eager. Tyrone’s smirk widened, and he tilted his head, studying her like she was something he was about to unwrap.

“I said—”

“I heard you.” Roxy’s voice was steady. Strained, but steady. “I’m not deaf.”

Damien’s grin flickered. Something colder moved behind his eyes. “Then move.”

Roxy’s arms lifted. Slowly. The bra lifted with them, the lace clearing her breasts, and Markum watched the fabric rise like a curtain. Her brown skin caught the light, the curve of her breasts exposed, her nipples dark against the afternoon glow. She held the bra above her head, arms stretched, and she didn’t look at him. She stared straight ahead, at the fence behind him, at the sky, at anything but the five boys who were already deciding what came next.

Kevin’s whistle was softer this time. Almost reverent.

Jalen’s arms dropped from his chest. He took a step forward, then stopped himself, waiting.

Tyrone let the smirk stay, but his eyes had gone dark, focused, the humor bleeding out of them.

Marcus’s grip on Markum’s collar loosened. Just slightly. Enough that Markum could breathe deeper, and he hated that he noticed, hated that his body was grateful for the slack.

Damien’s thumb traced the strap one more time before he let it fall. The bra hung loose in Roxy’s hands, and he didn’t take it from her. He stepped back, looking at her the way Markum had seen him look at a wide-open receiver on the field—calculating his next move.

“You got a lot of nerve, Vega,” Damien said. “Walking out here like you own the place.”

“I’m not here to own anything.”

“No.” His eyes traveled down her body, slow, taking inventory. “You’re here to pay.”

The word settled into the space between them. Pay. Markum felt it in his gut, a cold knot that wouldn’t loosen.

Roxy’s arms didn’t lower. The bra stayed above her head, and she stood there, bare from the waist up, her skirt still hanging around her hips, her heels planted on the asphalt like she was daring someone to knock her over.

“So what’s next?” she asked, her voice flat. “You gonna stare all day?”

Damien’s grin returned. Wider this time. “Eager, huh?”

“I want this over with.”

“It’s not up to you when it’s over.”

He moved closer, close enough that his chest almost touched hers. The bra was still between them, and Damien reached up, taking it from her fingers, letting the lace dangle from his hand before he tossed it to the ground. It landed next to her blouse, black against white, the two pieces of fabric already telling the story of what was happening here.

Markum’s throat was dry. He tried to swallow and couldn’t.

“The skirt,” Damien said.

Roxy’s hands went to her waist. Her fingers found the zipper, and she pulled it down—a slow rasp of metal that Markum heard over the pounding of his own blood. The skirt loosened, and she pushed it down over her hips, letting it fall to her ankles. She stepped out of it, one heel at a time, and now she was in nothing but her black panties and heels, her brown skin glowing in the low-slanting sun.

Tyrone laughed again, but it was shorter this time. His eyes were fixed on the curve of her hip, the way her waist flared into her thighs.

Kevin had stopped bouncing. He was still, his hands out of his pockets, his fingers flexing at his sides.

Marcus pulled Markum’s collar tighter, and he stumbled forward, his chest pressing into the fence. The diamonds bit through his shirt, cold and unyielding, and he could feel the metal against his ribs.

“You’re gonna have a good view from here,” Marcus said, his mouth close to Markum’s ear. “Don’t blink.”

Markum’s hands gripped the fence, and he watched Roxy standing in the middle of the half-circle, her chin still lifted, her arms now at her sides, her fingers curled into loose fists. She didn’t cover herself. She didn’t try to hide. She stood there, bare and waiting, and Markum understood that she was doing what she always did—taking the hit so he didn’t have to.

Damien circled her. Slow. His cleats clicking against the asphalt, one step at a time. He passed behind her, and Markum saw Roxy’s shoulders tighten, saw the way her hands almost moved to cover her ass before she stopped them.

“You ever been watched like this?” Damien asked, his voice coming from behind her now. “All those eyes on you?”

Roxy didn’t answer.

“I asked you a question.”

“No.” Her voice was smaller now. “No, I haven’t.”

“Good.” Damien stepped back into her line of sight, facing her again. “Then you’re gonna learn what it feels like.”

He reached out, his fingers brushing the curve of her waist, light enough that it could have been an accident. Roxy flinched—just a twitch, just a tremor in her skin—but she didn’t step back.

Damien’s hand settled on her hip. His thumb traced the line of her panties, following the edge of the fabric where it met her skin. “You know what we’re gonna do to you?”

Roxy’s breath caught. “You said anything I want.”

“I said anything we want.”

The correction landed like a slap. Markum saw her face change—the flicker of something breaking behind her eyes, the way her mouth opened and closed before she found words that didn’t come.

Damien’s hand moved lower, his thumb pressing into the hollow of her hip, and Kevin took another step forward, closing the circle, the five of them tightening around her like a noose.

Markum heard himself say her name. “Roxy.”

She didn’t look at him. Couldn’t. Her eyes were fixed on Damien’s, and Markum watched her surrender something he couldn’t name—some last piece of herself she’d been holding onto since she stepped out from behind that dumpster.

Damien’s thumb hooked under the waistband of her panties. He didn’t pull. He just held it, waiting, letting her feel the pressure of what was about to come.

“Bet you wish you’d walked past faster now,” Damien said, his grin splitting his face. “Don’t you, Vega?”

Roxy’s voice was barely a whisper. “Just do it.”

“We will.” Damien’s thumb pulled the waistband, stretching the fabric, and the first curve of her ass began to show—brown skin, smooth and warm, exposed one inch at a time. “But like I said.”

He paused. Let the silence fill with everything she was about to lose.

“Slower.”
