The Twins of Azure Peak
The martial world was never peaceful for long.
Among its chaos stood five pillars that held the balance together.
The Five Great Sects.
And among them, one was spoken of with particular reverence.
Azure Peak Sect.
Guardian of the eastern mountains. Protector of the Great Zhao Empire's borderlands. Home to some of the finest martial artists in a generation.
At its heart lived two names that were never spoken apart.
Li Tian.
Li Yue.
Twins. Son and daughter of Sect Master Li Changfeng.
From the moment they could walk, they trained together, ate together, dreamed together.
Where Li Tian was found, Li Yue was rarely far behind. Where Li Yue laughed, Li Tian's guarded expression always softened.
The disciples of Azure Peak had a saying.
"Ask the sun to leave the sky before you ask the Li twins to leave each other's side.
Li Tian, the elder by mere minutes, was proud, stubborn, and relentless with a blade.
By twelve, he had already surpassed disciples twice his age. By sixteen, elders spoke his name in the same breath as legends.
He trained until his hands bled. He never allowed himself to celebrate a victory before searching for the next weakness to correct.
His father's approval was the only prize that mattered to him.
Li Yue, gentler in nature but no less formidable, found her gift in a different art.
Healing.
Where her brother's hands were built for destruction, hers were built for mending. She memorized ancient medical texts before she memorized swordplay. She could set a bone, brew an antidote, and disable an opponent with a single needle strike, all before her brother finished his morning forms.
Sect Master Li Changfeng often said his daughter's compassion was a strength his son had not yet learned to carry.
Li Tian never disagreed.
He simply trained harder.
"You push yourself too much," Li Yue told him one evening, wrapping a fresh bruise across his knuckles.
"Father expects strength from the future Sect Master," Li Tian said.
"Father expects you to be his son," Li Yue said quietly. "Not merely his successor."
Li Tian said nothing.
He rarely knew how to answer when his sister spoke truths he wasn't ready to hear.
Their bond was the one constant in a life built around discipline and duty.
Neither of them expected it to change.
Then, on a morning no different from any other, the sect gates opened for a guest neither of them had asked for.
A young man stepped through, dressed in traveling robes far too fine for an ordinary disciple, an easy smile already in place as if he already owned the mountain he'd just arrived on.
Zhao Xuan.
Crown Prince of the Great Zhao Empire.
And the last person Li Tian ever wanted training beside him.
