Summary

Sticking to a hobby is difficult. For me, atleast. Putting yourself out there is difficult. For me, atleast. Doing anything is difficult. For me, atleast. But, that is the way it is... For me, atleast. A solution for me was to submit my writing to (free) contests. After six months of submitting to the contests I will post them in this collection. If I hear back with critism, I will post it with a poem on their critique. Why? Why not. -Here goes everything... To me, atleast.

Apple Valley Review

Apple Valley Review,

Thank you for allowing me to submit selected works of poetry to your organization. I am a woman in my thirties that: tries to play jazz piano, is a certified machinist, stops to smell the flowers, and dreams of one day being able to work full time as a creative.

I write under a pseudonym since I work in an 'at-will' state and as much as I wish money didn't rule the world, it surely has a stronghold on mine. My apologies but I will not be providing my real name or mailing address. Hopefully, I will still be considered for entry.

The three poems I have included are original, not A.I., unpublished/unsubmitted elsewhere poems.

Thank you again for this opportunity,

AJ Carbide

First Poem Entry:

A Friend

I prayed for a friend

When I didn't have a god to pray to pray to anymore

But

Something hear my pleas

And sent me one

Now

I pray

That i can be a friend to them

Second Poem Entry:

Prayer Distance

I used to pray/ incessantly/ wondering how it worked/ how far away was the intended reciever ? / now- I don't even bother/// I check my phone/And send a message to my friend/ on the other side of the country/ they respond within the minute

Third Poem Entry

Only Two

The contest said

Up to six...

Six poems.

And so I cling to that number

Six

I might as well let this challenge fade

Like all the others

...

..

.

But

Now I have three

LINES OF CODE , FLAVORS OF FATE

Fiona Walker: First of all I have to say that I really enjoyed this short story. I did find the single line paragraphs a little uncomfortable to read as it didn’t flow but the content was amusing and sweet. For me, the ending didn’t feel like an ending, it just stopped. I understand the implication of the final c...

Elle Petra: I really enjoyed reading about these characters from the outset. The concept is great, and well-executed. Toward the end of the story I found it difficult to continue to relate to the FMC, to the point where I didn't really hope the main characters would end up together. But this is likely just down...

Fiona Walker: What a wonderfully brilliant story. As always, really well written and edited with a great storyline, it seems there’s no genre this really talented author can’t write! Alexandra: I would have liked to have seen a talk on marriage and possibly a proposal. But even with out it this is a well written piece with a lot of heart. The only thing that got slightly annoying was the repetition of words and phrases. It felt like repeating scenes with the same emotions rather than the ne...
