Chapter 1:
" The Knock"
It was 3:13 a.m.
The entire city was asleep.
Ayaan woke to the sound of three slow knocks.
Knock... Knock... Knock...
His apartment had only one door.
He looked through the peephole.
No one.
He opened it anyway.
The hallway was empty except for a small black envelope on the floor.
Written on it in silver ink:
"Don't trust your memories."
Ayaan frowned.
He had never seen the envelope before.
Inside was a single photograph.
It showed him...
...standing beside a little girl.
Both were smiling.
The only problem...
He had never seen the girl in his life.
Suddenly his phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A whisper came from the other side.
"She's still waiting."
The call ended.
His hands trembled.
Who was "she"?
Before he could think further, his neighbour knocked on the wall.
"Everything okay?"
Ayaan opened the door.
The neighbour looked confused.
"You've been talking to yourself for the last ten minutes."
Ayaan froze.
His phone screen showed...
No missed calls.
No outgoing calls.
Nothing.
Only one message appeared.
"Chapter One has begun."
The next morning, Ayaan visits the place where the photograph was taken.
He discovers something impossible.
The little girl disappeared 15 years ago.
Everyone believes she died.
But the police records list Ayaan as the last person who saw her alive.
The problem?
Ayaan has no memory of ever meeting her.
And someone seems determined to make him remember...
