Chapter 1

“Every love story begins with a promise. Mine began with a lie.”

The palace had never looked this beautiful before.

White roses decorated every corner, golden lights covered the ceilings, and the sound of music filled the entire hall. The world’s most powerful families had gathered under one roof.

Tonight was not just a wedding.

It was an alliance.

And I was the bride.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

The red bridal outfit, the jewellery, the makeup... everything looked perfect.

Everyone said I looked like a dream.

But dreams were not always as beautiful as they seemed.

“Kashvi,” my mother called softly.

I turned around.

She smiled at me, her eyes filled with emotions.

“You look beautiful.”

I smiled.

“Thank you.”

She held my hands.

“Are you nervous?”

A small laugh escaped my lips.

“Maybe a little.”

She smiled.

“That is normal. Your life is changing today.”

I looked back at myself in the mirror.

She was right.

After tonight, nothing would ever be the same.

The doors opened.

The music grew louder.

Every person in the hall turned towards me.

I took a deep breath and stepped forward.

My eyes moved across the crowd until they found him.

Veer Oberoi.

My soon-to-be husband.

He stood near the mandap, dressed in a black and ivory sherwani. He looked calm, confident, and completely unreadable.

While everyone around him smiled, he didn’t.

Not even once.

I had met Veer several times before our wedding, but I still felt like I barely knew him.

He was polite.

Respectful.

But distant.

Like there was a wall around him that no one could break.

As I reached him, he looked at me.

For a second, everything around us disappeared.

His dark eyes met mine, and I couldn’t understand what he was thinking.

Then he looked away.

The ceremony began.

The priest’s voice filled the hall as we completed every ritual. Our families watched us with happiness and pride.

Everyone believed this was the beginning of a beautiful love story.

Maybe I wanted to believe that too.

When it was time for the vows, I looked at Veer.

He repeated every promise with a calm expression.

A promise to stand by me.

A promise to protect me.

A promise to stay with me forever.

His voice sounded perfect.

Almost too perfect.

Then came my turn.

I made the same promises.

Not because I was forced to.

But because somewhere in my heart, I hoped this marriage would become something real.

Something beautiful.

“You may now look at each other as husband and wife.”

The hall erupted into applause.

Everyone smiled.

Everyone celebrated.

Veer turned towards me.

For the cameras, he placed a gentle smile on his face.

A smile that looked perfect.

A smile that fooled everyone.

He leaned closer.

“Everyone is watching.”

I looked at him, confused.

“Smile, Kashvi.”

I did.

The cameras flashed.

And in that one moment, the world saw us as the perfect couple.

Veer Oberoi and Kashvi Malhotra.

A fairytale.

A dream.

A beautiful beginning.

But what nobody knew...

Was that some promises were not made out of love.

Some were made for revenge.

Okay, this opening already had me nervous because of Kashvi. I literally teared up when Veer turned his face away from her. Like, COME ONNN. This is so frustrating! And honestly, I feel like it’s not just Kashvi who dreams of having a beautiful wedding. She kind of represents every woman who has dreamed about that moment. When I was reading this part, everything just flowed through my mind so easily. I could literally picture the whole scene. And that ending in the middle of the chapter??? You really know how to leave us hanging and make us even more curious. Now I need to know what kind of revenge is about to unfold. The way you tell the story and slowly tease the readers with little hints is honestly so good. I love it. I’m already curious about what’s going to happen in the next chapter!
