Jordyn Nolan
Jordyn is intelligent, stubborn, observant, and armed with a dry sense of humor. She spends her days cataloging probate files, land records, and municipal disputes, giving her an unusual talent for spotting legal loopholes and historical connections. Her orderly life collapses when Victor Duval attacks her inside Velvet Fang and identifies her as a descendant of an original treaty witness.
Jordyn’s Wardblood allows her to resist vampire glamour and interact with the ancient boundary magic protecting Shadowpine. She refuses to be treated as Foster’s possession, Victor’s weapon, or evidence in a supernatural property dispute. Her greatest strength is her determination to speak for herself, even when surrounded by creatures stronger than she is.
Over the story, Jordyn grows from an unsuspecting human into Shadowpine’s official human representative. She helps defeat Victor, writes the Human Clause into the supernatural treaty, and later publishes Shadowpine: The Hidden History of the Valley.
Foster Lyons
Foster is a huge, broad-shouldered man with dark, often-disheveled hair, beard stubble, scarred hands, and amber-hazel eyes that glow gold when his wolf rises. His clothes usually carry grease, engine oil, or evidence of his latest shift. In wolf form, he becomes an enormous golden wolf with dark markings along his spine and calm orange eyes.
Despite his frightening strength, Foster is shy, awkward, and painfully inexperienced with romance. He spends eight months watching over Jordyn from a distance, fixing her car for free, leaving books on her porch, remembering her coffee order, and stealing her scarf because it carries her scent. His secrecy leaves Jordyn legally vulnerable and becomes one of his greatest mistakes.
Foster is loyal, protective, practical, and capable of devastating violence when someone under his care is threatened. However, his central struggle is learning that protection without honesty can become another form of control. He must stop hiding behind wolf instincts and pack customs and begin treating Jordyn as an equal partner.
Victor Duval
Victor is elegant, polished, and unnaturally beautiful, with perfectly styled dark hair, smooth pale skin, and cold gray eyes. He favors expensive charcoal suits, silk accessories, and the appearance of complete control. He smells of crushed roses and damp soil.
Behind his refined manners is a calculating predator. Victor uses glamour, blood magic, legal manipulation, and human thralls to expand his influence. He attacks Jordyn because her Wardblood can open ancient boundary seals, then attempts to frame Foster’s rescue as an illegal territorial assault.
Victor sees humans as assets and supernatural law as something to exploit. When the tribunal rules against him, his polished mask collapses. He attacks the Neutral Council, becomes an outlaw, and tries to force Jordyn into activating the original ward stone. Instead, the magic binds him until the third dawn, allowing the Council to imprison him.
Amber Lane
Amber is energetic, fashionable, outspoken, and gloriously unaware of Shadowpine’s supernatural population. She has blonde curls, a love of bright colors, platform shoes, oversized sunglasses, vanilla body spray, curly fries, and dramatic opinions about nearly everything.
She convinces Jordyn to visit Velvet Fang, where Victor places her under vampire glamour. Although she does not remember the truth about that night, she remains loyal to Jordyn and continues checking on her throughout the aftermath.
Amber drives a rattling yellow Honda Civic and treats powerful supernatural leaders like inconvenient members of the local zoning board. Her noisy, ordinary presence provides Jordyn with a connection to the human life she had before Victor’s attack.
