Chapter 1:An Unexpected Encounter

The morning sun struggled to break through the heavy clouds as Alexia stepped out of the modest apartment she shared with her mother. The previous night’s rain had left the streets glistening, but the coolness of the morning did little to ease the anxiety that weighed heavily on her heart.

She adjusted the strap of her handbag and checked the documents inside it for the third time.

Her résumé was there. Her certificates were there. Everything she needed for the interview was carefully arranged.

Today had to be different.

For months, Alexia had searched tirelessly for employment. She had attended countless interviews, submitted applications to different organizations, and endured one rejection after another. Yet, she refused to surrender.

Her mother appeared at the doorway.

“Alexia, you’re leaving without breakfast again?”

Alexia turned and smiled.

“I’m not really hungry, Mum. I’ll eat when I return.”

Her mother sighed. “You said that yesterday.”

“I know.”

There was a brief silence.

Her mother studied her daughter’s face. “Just be careful today. And remember, you don't have to prove your worth to anyone. You already know who you are.”

Alexia nodded, touched by the words.

“Thank you, Mum.”

She embraced her briefly before walking away.

She had no idea that before the day ended, her life would take an unexpected turn.

By eight o'clock, Alexia stood before the magnificent glass building of George Anderson Holdings.

She stared at it for a moment.

The organization was one of the most respected companies in the city. Its reputation for excellence was matched only by the wealth and influence of the Anderson family.

Alexia took a deep breath.

“Stay calm,” she whispered to herself.

She walked into the reception area.

“Good morning,” she greeted the receptionist.

“Good morning. How may I help you?”

“I’m here for an interview. My name is Alexia Williams.”

The receptionist checked the list in front of her.

“Yes. Marketing Assistant?”

“Yes.”

“Please, have a seat. Someone will call you shortly.”

Alexia thanked her and sat down.

Several other candidates were already waiting. Most were dressed in expensive suits and appeared confident. Alexia glanced at her simple, carefully ironed dress and suddenly became conscious of how different she looked from the others.

For a moment, doubt crept into her mind.

Maybe I don't belong here.

Before she could entertain the thought any further, the elevator doors opened.

A man stepped out.

The atmosphere in the reception area changed almost immediately.

He was tall, impeccably dressed, and carried himself with quiet authority. His dark suit was perfectly fitted, and his expression was serious without appearing unfriendly.

Alexia looked up.

Their eyes met.

For a brief moment, the busy reception area seemed strangely silent.

The man looked at her with mild curiosity before continuing toward the exit.

“That's Mr. George Anderson,” the woman beside Alexia whispered.

Alexia's eyes widened slightly.

George Anderson?

She had heard his name many times.

He was the managing director of the company and the eldest son of the Anderson family. Young, successful, disciplined, and notoriously private.

Alexia lowered her gaze.

She had no reason to think about him again.

At least, that was what she believed.

Nearly two hours later, Alexia was called into the interview room.

Three executives sat across from her.

The questions began immediately.

Her qualifications.

Her limited work experience.

Her strengths.

Her weaknesses.

Then came the question she had been expecting.

“Why should we employ you?”

Alexia paused briefly before answering.

“Because I may not have the most impressive experience among the candidates, but I am hardworking, teachable, and determined. If given an opportunity, I will work to prove that choosing me was the right decision.”

One of the interviewers leaned back.

“You have very little professional experience. Why should we take that risk?”

Alexia smiled politely.

“Because everyone who has experience today was once given an opportunity to gain it.”

The room fell silent.

Before anyone could respond, the door opened.

George Anderson walked in.

The interviewers immediately rose.

“Good afternoon, sir.”

“Good afternoon.”

George took his seat at the head of the table.

His eyes moved across the room before settling on Alexia.

Recognition flickered across his face.

“You're Alexia Williams.”

“Yes, sir.”

He picked up her résumé.

“You're applying for the marketing position.”

“Yes.”

He studied the document for a few seconds.

“Why do you want to work here?”

Alexia considered the question carefully.

“Because I believe this company will give me an opportunity to grow professionally, and I believe I have something valuable to contribute.”

George looked directly at her.

“Such as?”

“Commitment. Creativity. And determination.”

“And if you fail?”

Alexia met his gaze.

“I'll learn from it and try again.”

A faint smile touched George's lips.

It disappeared almost as quickly as it came.

“Interesting.”

He closed the file.

“You'll be contacted.”

Alexia nodded.

“Thank you for the opportunity, sir.”

She stood and walked out.

George watched the door close behind her.

For reasons he could not immediately explain, he found himself thinking about her answer.

Everyone who has experience today was once given an opportunity.

There was confidence in her words, but no arrogance.

Something about her was different.

Outside the building, Alexia released a long breath.

She had no idea whether the interview had gone well.

Her phone rang before she reached the bus stop.

“Hello?”

“Good afternoon. May I speak with Miss Alexia Williams?”

“This is Alexia.”

“This is George Anderson Holdings. We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the position of Marketing Assistant. You are expected to resume on Monday.”

Alexia stopped walking.

For a moment, she could not speak.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes. Congratulations.”

“Thank you so much.”

She ended the call, staring at her phone as tears gathered in her eyes.

She looked toward the sky.

After months of rejection, disappointment, and uncertainty, one door had finally opened.

What Alexia didn't know was that the job was only the beginning.

Inside that company awaited new challenges, unexpected friendships, painful secrets—and a man who would gradually become impossible to forget.

George Anderson had given her an opportunity.

Neither of them knew that, in time, Alexia would become the greatest opportunity love had ever given George.

And so began a journey that would take them from grass to grace.
