Chapter 1: Beautiful Thief
ZAYN
I’ve never felt so unsure about what I wanted till I wore this disguise and came out to this downtown bar with Drace.
Although, what I was sure of, is the fact that I am straight as a spaghetti, and my wedding was in three months’ time.
That’s enough time to get my act together…
I tugged at the black leather jacket I wore, suddenly too aware of it, regretting every decision that came to this.
Drace said coming to a gay bar like this, one had to look at least less intimidating.
What was I even saying?
I sighed, watched as he talked to the huge guard and exchanged something with him.
“Hey… c’mon, let’s go in,” he urged, and I swear I haven’t felt this stupid in a long time.
“How’d you know so much about this stuff?” I asked as we entered the large bar.
The place was alive, the air thick with alcohol, sweat, something sweet I couldn’t place.
Lights flashing in deep blues and reds, bodies pressed together, laughter spilling over loud music.
Men danced too close and free, some grinding against each other like they didn’t care who watched. Others sat in corners, drinks in hand, smiling too hard.
“Don’t worry so much, Zayn. I got you. Just act all cool and natural,” he said as he strode to a huge black couch.
“What do you mean cool and natural?” I whispered low, as though through the loud music they could hear me. “I’ve never been gay,” I added.
He turned, patting my shoulders slightly as we took turns collecting shots on the table.
“Relax,” he said, a sly grin tugging at his lips. “You look like a sinner at confession… and trust me, people pay good money for that look.”
I rolled my eyes, my grip tight around the glass, as I took a shot, trying not to glance around too much.
Drace was my childhood best friend and the only person that had ever seen this desperate side of mine.
I was not expected to show emotions, especially not one of confusion like this.
Although I know being here is a threat to my reputation.
But he insisted I find a trade… experiment, if that’s even the right word.
I’ve only ever dated girls. They used to turn me on… but it’s been six months since I last had a lasting erection.
I wasn’t one to masturbate every now and then.
But I knew something was wrong when I stopped being aroused by Lisa, my fiancee.
I had to speak to a specialist about it…
And he had put this stupid idea in my head.
Worse, Drace encouraged it.
Insisting, he could tell there was something missing in my life.
If anything, I’ve known he’s into this queer stuff.
I never cared much about it. I just saw myself as an ally.
But now, sitting here, watching as two guys twisted around a pole like snakes…
I looked away… then looked back again.
Why?
Somehow I couldn’t help but also wonder what the media news would be like.
"Hot Heir Billionaire Seen in a Gay Bar."
The perfect scandal.
I gulped another shot of whiskey as it burned my throat.
I itched to have a smoke and excused myself outside, away from the chaos.
It was nighttime, so I don’t think anyone would recognize me that much.
I pulled out my favorite cider cigarette, letting my match stick work its way as the smell filled the air—intoxicating, drifting my thoughts away from reality.
One puff, quelling my regret of being here.
I didn’t realize when someone’s shoulder hit mine, more than a brush.
“The hell…?” I snapped, glaring up to meet him.
And that’s when I caught sight of him properly.
Dark curls, messy, thick, falling over his forehead like they had no intention of behaving.
A few strands brushed against his eyes, and when he tilted his head, the light caught them just enough to make them look almost soft and inviting.
But it was his neck that held me.
A snake tattoo coiled just beneath his ear, inked deep into his skin, its body curving down the side of his throat. It moved when he swallowed, subtle… dangerous.
My gaze dropped low before I could stop it.
His shirt clung just enough to hint at the shape underneath, lean, defined… not bulky, but the kind of body that looked like it knew what it was doing.
My hands itched to touch, but my brain screamed no.
Why was I thinking this?
Why was my body betraying me?
Just then, his lips parted slightly, like he was about to say something..
“I’m sorry…” he said, bowing his head and walking off immediately.
Not giving me a moment to process.
I was so carried away by his perfect silhouette that I didn’t realize my wallet was missing.
The realization only hit when I tried to pull out my phone to call Drace, that I wanted out and was no longer interested in finding a catch tonight.
And immediately, the thought hit me.
That beautiful thing that bumped into me wasn’t just alluring… but a thief.
I snapped as I ran, trailing the path he took, pushed past people, my eyes scanning for those curls, that tattoo…anything.
The bastard was out of sight.
If he wanted money, he could have just said so.
But that wasn’t what I was worried about.
My precious jewel was inside that wallet.
“Zayn?” Drace’s voice barely cut through my panic.
“He… he stole my wallet,” I gasped, chest tight.
My mind refused to focus on the money.
He. That… thing. I need to find him.
My teeth clenched. “I want him… found. Now.”
