Summary

Summary GENRE: Dystopian Literary Fiction / Dark Romance A state-mandated prostitute and the reformist president's son who "saves" him discover that exchanging one cage for another is not freedom at all. SYNOPSIS (Short Summary) In a brutal dystopian society, the government treats common citizens as tools for the elite's pleasure. During every summer solstice, teenagers from impoverished states are selected as "play things" for officials' children—a state-sanctioned system of prostitution disguised as opportunity. Leo, abandoned at birth and raised by no one, is chosen to be the plaything of Cassian, the president's son. Unlike his tyrant father, Cassian is known as a soft-hearted reformist who despises the system. But to Leo, Cassian is simply his client—the man who turned him into a whore. What begins as a transaction evolves into something more. But freedom is not a throne, a crown, or a revolution.
