Summary

Some nights are colder than others. Some whispers are not carried by the wind. The Chilly Night Murmured Above is a collection of short horror stories where ordinary moments slowly turn into something terrifying. From forgotten houses and silent mirrors to strange figures, unexplained voices, and shadows that refuse to disappear, each story opens a door into a different kind of darkness, not every haunting begins with a scream. Sometimes, it begins with a whisper, and sometimes, the most frightening thing is realizing that something has been watching you all along. Read carefully. The night may be listening. ReadMySilence

The Winged Phantom

The night was very quiet. It felt like a graveyard where even the wind was afraid to move. A cold shiver ran down my spine. I didn’t know why I was there, but something… something was pulling me forward.

The moon was low in the sky, pale and weak. Its light created long, strange shadows that looked like they were moving on their own. Every small sound echoed loudly, like whispers in the dark. My heart was beating fast. I held my torch tightly, my hands shaking. I wanted to run, but then a thought came to me, what if someone needs help? Taking a deep breath, I slowly walked ahead. That’s when I saw it. Something was lying on the ground. At first, I thought it was just a pile of leaves, but then it moved.

Wings.

Dark, broken wings slowly began to open. I froze, under the wings… there was a body. A girl, her skin was pale, almost like she was dead. Dark stains covered her clothes, it looked like blood. Her face was hidden, but something about her felt wrong… not human. Suddenly, a voice whispered from behind me— “Leave… now…” I turned quickly, but no one was there. When I looked back at the girl, she was gone.

The next morning, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Was it a dream? Or was it real? Later that day, I saw her again. The same girl. Standing near the road. Her clothes were clean now, but her face was still pale… lifeless. My breath stopped. It was her. The same mysterious figure from last night. Slowly, I walked toward her and offered her some water. She didn’t look at me. Her hands were shaking. Her eyes stayed down… like she was afraid. “Are you okay?” I asked softly. She didn’t answer, then suddenly she whispered, very slowly: “You shouldn’t have come back…”

A chill ran through my body. Before I could say anything, she finally looked up at me. Her eyes were completely black. No white. No life. Just darkness and then… she smiled. A long, unnatural smile. At that moment, I felt something wet in my hand. I looked down.

The water bottle… was filled with blood. When I looked back up, she was gone again, but this time… I heard the sound of wings… right behind me.
