The Blood Moon’s Secret

1 – The Blood Moon’s Secret

The Blood Moon had not appeared in over a hundred years.

Across the Kingdom of Noctis, every werewolf pack gathered beneath the crimson sky, believing the ancient prophecy was finally awakening.

Far from the celebrations, twenty-two-year-old Aria Winters stood alone outside a small cottage at the edge of Ashwood Village. She had never cared much for prophecies. Her life revolved around simpler things—collecting herbs for the village healer, caring for her adoptive grandmother, and wondering why she never truly felt she belonged anywhere.

“You’re late,” her grandmother called from the doorway.

Aria smiled apologetically and hurried inside.

“I lost track of time.”

The old woman placed a bowl of warm soup on the table before studying Aria’s face.

“The Blood Moon is rising.”

“I know.”

“You should stay indoors tonight.”

Aria laughed softly.

“You’ve been saying that all week.”

“This time I’m serious.”

There was fear in the old woman’s voice.

Real fear.

Before Aria could ask why, three loud knocks echoed through the cottage.

Her grandmother froze.

“They’ve come.”

“Who?”

Instead of answering, the old woman rushed to an old wooden chest hidden beneath the floorboards. She removed a small velvet pouch and pressed it into Aria’s hands.

“Listen carefully.”

Inside the pouch lay a silver pendant shaped like a crescent moon.

“You must never lose this.”

“It belonged to your mother.”

Aria stared at it in surprise.

“You told me you didn’t know my parents.”

“I lied.”

Another loud knock shook the door.

“Open in the name of Alpha Victor Kane!”

The grandmother’s face turned pale.

“They found us sooner than I expected.”

Aria’s heartbeat quickened.

“Who is Alpha Victor?”

“A man who has searched for you since the night you were born.”

Before Aria could speak, the cottage door burst open.

Six armed wolves stormed inside.

Their black armor carried the mark of the Shadow Claw Pack.

The leader stepped forward.

“So the rumors were true.”

His eyes settled on the pendant in Aria’s hand.

“The Crescent Heir lives.”

The grandmother stepped in front of Aria.

“Run!”

“No!”

“Go!”

With tears filling her eyes, Aria ran through the back door and disappeared into the forest.

Behind her, she heard swords clash and wolves howl.

She wanted to turn back.

She wanted to help.

But she remembered her grandmother’s final words.

Run.

Branches whipped against her face as she raced deeper into the darkness.

She had no idea where she was going.

Only that someone wanted her alive.

Hours later, exhausted and unable to run another step, she reached a moonlit clearing.

A huge black wolf stood in the center.

Its golden eyes watched her without hostility.

The wolf slowly transformed into a tall man dressed in a black cloak trimmed with silver.

He looked no older than thirty.

His expression was calm, but his presence carried unquestionable authority.

“You finally found me,” Aria whispered, though she wasn’t sure why those words escaped her lips.

The stranger smiled faintly.

“No.”

His deep voice echoed through the silent forest.

“I’ve finally found you.”

Before Aria could respond, distant howls surrounded the clearing.

The Shadow Claw warriors had caught up.

The stranger looked toward the trees, then back at Aria.

“Stay behind me.”

“Who are you?”

He drew a dark silver sword that shimmered beneath the Blood Moon.

“My name is Damon Nightshade.”

Aria’s eyes widened.

She had heard that name only in bedtime stories.

The Lycan King.

The guardian of the oldest royal bloodline.

The man everyone believed had vanished years ago.

The wolves emerged from the shadows, surrounding them from every direction.

Their leader smiled coldly.

“Hand over the girl, Your Majesty.”

Damon stepped forward, placing himself between Aria and the soldiers.

His golden eyes began to glow.

“You’ve made one mistake tonight.”

The soldiers tightened their grip on their weapons.

“And what mistake is that?”

Damon’s voice became as cold as the night itself.

“You threatened someone under my protection.”

The air itself seemed to tremble.

Above them, the Blood Moon burned brighter than ever.

And in that single moment, Aria realized her ordinary life had ended forever. Chapter 1 – The Blood Moon’s Secret (Part 2)

The Shadow Claw warriors surrounded the clearing, their blades glinting beneath the crimson light of the Blood Moon.

Aria’s pulse hammered in her ears.

She had never stood in the middle of a battlefield before. Every instinct told her to run, but her legs refused to move.

Damon Nightshade stood between her and the approaching soldiers, calm and unshaken.

Their captain laughed.

“So the great Lycan King still protects forgotten bloodlines.”

Damon’s golden eyes never left the men in front of him.

“You know exactly whose blood she carries.”

The captain’s smile faded.

“Our Alpha has waited twenty-two years for this night.”

He raised his sword.

“Take the girl.”

The warriors charged.

Within a heartbeat, Damon disappeared.

Aria gasped.

He moved faster than her eyes could follow. A blur of black and silver swept across the clearing. Steel clashed against steel, sparks flying into the night.

One soldier swung his sword.

Damon caught the blade with one hand and twisted it free before knocking the warrior unconscious with the hilt of his own weapon.

Another attacker lunged from behind.

Without turning, Damon sidestepped and struck him with a powerful kick that sent him crashing into a fallen tree.

The remaining soldiers hesitated.

“He’s too fast!” one shouted.

The captain growled.

“Attack together!”

Five warriors rushed forward at once.

Damon closed his eyes for a brief second.

A silver aura surrounded him.

Bones shifted.

Muscles expanded.

Dark silver light burst across the clearing.

Where the man had stood now stood a magnificent Lycan, taller and more powerful than any wolf Aria had ever imagined.

His black fur shimmered beneath the moonlight.

Golden eyes burned like fire.

The earth trembled as he released a thunderous roar.

The soldiers froze.

“Retreat!” one cried in panic.

But it was already too late.

Within moments, the clearing fell silent again.

The surviving attackers fled into the forest, abandoning their wounded companions.

Aria stared in complete disbelief.

As the silver light faded, Damon returned to his human form.

“You... you’re incredible,” she whispered.

“I’ve had many years to master my strength.”

He sheathed his sword and turned toward her.

“Are you hurt?”

She slowly shook her head.

“No.”

“Good.”

Before either of them could speak again, a cold wind swept through the trees.

The crescent pendant around Aria’s neck began to glow.

A soft silver light spread across her hands.

“What is happening?”

She looked down in alarm.

The pendant floated slightly above her chest, as though drawn toward the Blood Moon.

Damon’s expression changed.

“The seal is weakening.”

“What seal?”

“The one that has hidden your true power since childhood.”

Aria instinctively reached for the pendant.

The moment her fingers touched it, a vision flashed before her eyes.

A magnificent palace.

Silver banners flying above marble towers.

A woman with gentle blue eyes placing the pendant around the neck of a little girl.

A man in royal armor kneeling before the child.

“Protect the princess,” he pleaded.

“No matter the cost.”

Then came screams.

Fire.

The sound of collapsing walls.

A cloaked warrior raising a bloodstained sword.

The vision vanished.

Aria stumbled backward, struggling to breathe.

“I saw them...”

“My parents.”

Tears filled her eyes.

“They were trying to save me.”

Damon stepped closer but kept a respectful distance.

“The pendant only reveals memories when it believes you’re ready.”

“So they really died protecting me?”

He nodded slowly.

“They gave you a chance to live.”

Aria wiped away her tears.

“For years I thought I had been abandoned.”

“You were never abandoned.”

“You were protected.”

For the first time in many years, the emptiness in her heart began to change.

The answers she had searched for all her life were finally within reach.

A distant howl echoed through the forest.

Damon looked toward the eastern hills.

“We have to leave.”

“Why?”

“Those soldiers weren’t acting alone.”

Almost on cue, a black hawk descended from the sky and landed on Damon’s arm.

A tiny scroll was tied to its leg.

He opened it quickly.

His face grew serious.

“What is it?” Aria asked.

“Victor Kane has left his fortress.”

“Is that bad?”

“He never enters a battle unless he believes victory is certain.”

The ground shook beneath their feet.

Far away, horns sounded across the valley.

“They’re moving already?” Damon murmured.

Aria followed his gaze.

On a distant ridge, hundreds of torchlights appeared one after another.

An army.

A massive army.

The Shadow Claw Pack had begun its march.

Damon mounted his black horse and extended his hand.

“We don’t have much time.”

Aria looked back once at the forest she had called home.

Everything had changed in a single night.

She took his hand and climbed into the saddle behind him.

As they rode toward the Lycan Kingdom, neither of them noticed the cloaked figure watching from the top of the ridge.

The stranger smiled as the pendant around Aria’s neck glowed in the darkness.

“So the Crescent Princess has awakened,” he whispered.

“The game can finally begin.”

I really loved the opening of this chapter! I feel like Aria’s grandmother must have had a really important reason for lying about Aria’s parents. Honestly, this is getting so interesting. The fact that Alpha Victor has been searching for Aria since the day she was born actually reminded me of some old fairy tales from my country. AAAAH, I LOVE THIS. And author, you should know that I’ve actually never read an Alpha or Luna novel before. Not because I’m not interested, I just usually prefer watching this kind of story rather than reading it. But your novel actually made me interested! The way you describe everything makes it so easy to visualize in my head. And after reading this chapter, I finally understood why Aria’s grandmother did what she did. It honestly broke my heart. Her parents sacrificing themselves and being willing to die just to protect Aria... that hurts. But I’m also happy that she eventually found a clan that would protect her. This is such a good opening, author! I’m really curious to see where Aria’s story goes from here.
