Chapter 1: The Secret
Joy walked through the school gates beside Halma.
“You're unusually quiet today,” Halma said.
Joy smiled nervously. “I'm fine.”
Halma looked at her suspiciously.
“You're hiding something.”
Joy quickly looked away.
Across the courtyard, Badado was talking with his friends.
The moment he looked in Joy's direction, she felt her heart beat faster.
Badado smiled.
Joy immediately looked down.
Halma gasped.
“Oh my goodness! You like him!”
“Shhh!” Joy whispered. “Don't tell anyone!”
Halma laughed. “So you really have a crush on Badado?”
Joy nodded.
“But it's a secret.”
“Your secret is safe with me,” Halma promised.
Neither of them noticed Hope standing nearby.
Hope had heard everything.
She smiled to herself.
Joy had a secret—and Hope was about to find out just how big it was.
