Chapter one
1
PEACE & CHAOS
Once, this world knew peace—not the fragile peace written in history books, but a living peace that moved with the wind, rested within silence, and shaped the hearts of those who lived beneath it. Light was not merely worshipped; it shaped life itself. Darkness was only an old tale spoken to children beside fading candlelight.
But peace alone could not erase the scars of what the world had survived.
Far beyond the reach of kingdoms and memory, something ancient began to awaken once again.
A name forgotten by time.
A name feared enough to survive history itself.
Duriel.
Long ago, during the Great Ceos Battle—a war that nearly shattered existence—the world stood at the edge of ruin. Kingdoms fell silent. Cities burned beneath endless destruction. Even hope began to vanish from the world.
And from that chaos, they rose.
The Kurashina. Not kings. Not gods. But warriors chosen by fate, bound together by the united strength of kingdoms.
They existed for one purpose alone: to prevent the end of the world.
They did not defeat Duriel—because they could not.
Instead, they fought until reality itself could recover its breath, sacrificing most of their power to seal him within a traceless realm—a prison without form, sound, or memory.
And for a time…
The world healed again.
But some wounds never truly close.
---
In the kingdom of Syknëal, ruled by King Jarius, celebration filled every corner of the palace.
Golden lanterns lit the towering walls. Music flowed through grand halls. Nobles raised silver cups while laughter filled the night with pride and relief.
It was the turning of a new year—a sacred festival marking victory over Duriel.
For a moment, the world felt safe again.
But safety is often the most convincing illusion.
The grand doors of the royal hall creaked open.
A hush followed—not from command, but from presence.
An old priest stepped inside, leaning heavily on a dark wooden staff worn smooth by time.
Milarkh.
The king’s high priest.
Age bent his body, but not his authority. Something about him changed the atmosphere itself, drawing attention without effort.
Behind him followed the lower priests, tense and unsettled. Among them stood Ortz—Young, Watchful, and calm.
While others avoided the weight in the room, Ortz studied it quietly, as though listening to something others could not hear.
Within the temple, he was known as a rising priest destined for higher rank.
Outside it, he was known differently.
The closest companion of Prince Luther, heir to the throne.
And though neither realized it yet, history had already begun to shift around them.
The music faded. The laughter thinned. Not by force, but by unease spreading naturally through the hall.
King Jarius remained seated upon his throne.
But his fingers tightened slightly around his cup.
Milarkh stopped before him. His staff touched the stone floor with a single sound that brought complete stillness.
“It will happen again.”, he said.
The hall did not echo. It absorbed the words.
King Jarius frowned.
“…What will happen again?”
Milarkh lifted his gaze.
And for a moment, even the flames along the walls seemed less steady.
“Duriel,” he said.
“…will rise again.”
No one spoke. No one moved.
The moment settled—not loud, not dramatic, but final.
King Jarius slowly lowered his cup.
And for the first time in many years…
he had no answer.

I really like how you've set out this chapter, opening with the history of the world. It establishes a simple premise that's easy to pick up: a threat once nearly destroyed the world, heroes rose to face it, the threat was sealed and the world was saved... but now that threat is destined to return.
The writing feels well polished, and the chapter is short and punchy, with some really nice epic lines throughout. It's a great introduction that gives us just enough to understand the world and leaves us wanting to know what comes next 👍
