Beautifully Written and Impossible to Put Down
"I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this book because I feel like “I loved it” simply isn’t enough. You Were Safer Without Me completely pulled me in. What started as a story I thought I would simply enjoy quickly became one I genuinely cared about. I became attached to the characters, their struggles, their relationship, and all the little moments in between. Nathan and Rosalie are the heart of this story, and I absolutely loved watching their relationship develop. Their connection feels intense but believable, and what I appreciated most is that their relationship isn’t written as something perfect or effortless. There is fear, vulnerability, uncertainty, and so much emotional baggage between them. You can feel how much they mean to each other, even when they struggle to say it. Nathan, especially, is such a fascinating character. There are so many layers to him. He is strong, protective and capable, but underneath all of that is someone carrying an incredible amount of pain and guilt. Watching him slowly let Rosalie into the parts of himself he normally keeps hidden was one of my favourite things about the story. And Rosalie is not just “the love interest.” She has her own strength, her own fears and her own emotional journey. I loved that she has a personality and a life beyond Nathan. Their relationship works because they challenge each other, support each other, and sometimes completely terrify each other. The author also did an amazing job creating the world around them. Nathan’s team, their friendship and their banter brought so much life to the story. Those moments of humour and normality were especially important because they gave the heavier parts of the story even more impact. What really surprised me was how much the story grew emotionally. It isn’t just romance. There is danger, trauma, fear, trust, healing and the question of whether loving someone can sometimes make you more vulnerable rather than safer. And the title makes so much more sense the further you get into the story. The writing is honestly beautiful. The author knows how to build tension without rushing things, how to make quiet moments feel meaningful, and how to make you emotionally invest in the characters. There were moments when I had to stop reading for a second because I could actually feel what the characters were feeling. I laughed with them. I worried about them. I got frustrated with them. I fell in love with their story right alongside them. And that is probably the biggest compliment I can give this book: I cared. Truly. This is the kind of story that stays in your head after you put it down. Nathan and Rosalie have completely taken over my thoughts, and I already know I’m going to miss them when the story ends. Absolutely beautiful work by the author. ❤️ If you enjoy emotional romance with strong chemistry, complicated characters, danger, vulnerability, found family, and a love story that actually makes you feel something — read this one. I’m officially invested. And I need more Nathan and Rosalie. ❤️ "
