Train cars

We lived across a church

And right behind that church

Was a railroad track

The church youth group

That Sister and I were a part of

Was standing in our front yard

We had all stopped doing

Whatever

We were doing

And stared at the train passing by

It was long

The longest train

Any of us had seen

We counted the cars

One after the other

We grew excited

So many cars

We exclaimed

So many cars

We started to count out loud

Each car making all of us more

More excited

You came out of the house

And shouted at us

All of us ignored you

We just wanted our fun

You shouted again

Sister and I rolled our eyes

And stumbled toward the house

While the other kids just stared at you

In confusion

You closed the door

And I stared at it

Sighing

I never got to know

How many cars

There were
