Chapter 1: THE UNSTOPPABLE WOMAN

At exactly six o'clock every morning, while most of the city was still wrapped in sleep, the lights in the top-floor office of Victoria Towers were already burning.

Behind the wide glass windows stood a woman who had built an empire from almost nothing.

Her name was Mrs. Evelyn Anderson.

At forty-eight, Evelyn was one of the most successful businesswomen in the country. Her company owned several properties, imported goods from different countries, and had contracts with some of the biggest companies in the city. Her name was known in business circles, newspapers, and boardrooms.

People respected her.

Some admired her.

Others feared her.

But almost everyone agreed on one thing.

Evelyn Anderson never stopped working.

She sat behind her enormous glass desk, studying a thick file while her assistant stood patiently in front of her.

“Madam, you have a meeting with the directors at eight,” the assistant said.

Evelyn didn't look up.

“And after that?”

“You have lunch with the investors at twelve-thirty.”

“Move it to one.”

“Yes, Madam.”

“Then?”

“At three, you have the meeting concerning the new branch.”

“Good.”

The assistant checked her tablet.

“There is also a dinner invitation from the Chamber of Commerce tonight.”

Evelyn finally raised her eyes.

“Cancel it.”

“Madam?”

“I said cancel it.”

“They specifically requested your presence.”

“I have work.”

The assistant hesitated before nodding.

“Yes, Madam.”

Evelyn returned her attention to the file.

To her, there was always work.

Another contract.

Another meeting.

Another investment.

Another problem that needed solving.

She had built her company through years of discipline and sacrifice, and she refused to allow anything to distract her from maintaining what she had created.

Her employees often joked that Evelyn probably slept with a calculator under her pillow.

They weren't entirely wrong.

Even at home, she would spend hours reading reports.

Her beautiful mansion had everything money could buy, yet it often felt more like an office than a home.

There was a swimming pool she rarely used.

A large garden she hardly noticed.

A beautiful dining room where she frequently ate alone.

And several guest rooms that remained untouched for months.

Evelyn had money.

She had influence.

She had success.

But she had almost forgotten how to enjoy any of it.

There was only one person she loved more than her business.

Her daughter.

Amelia.

Unfortunately, Amelia was thousands of miles away.

For the past several years, Amelia had been studying abroad. Evelyn had sent her there because she wanted her daughter to receive the best education possible.

She paid every school fee on time.

She sent money whenever Amelia needed it.

She bought her expensive gifts.

She made sure her daughter wanted for nothing.

But there was one thing Evelyn couldn't send across the ocean.

Her time.

Their conversations were usually short.

“Mom, how are you?”

“Busy.”

“How was work?”

“Fine.”

“I miss you.”

“I miss you too. I have a meeting now. We'll talk later.”

And later often became tomorrow.

Tomorrow became next week.

And before Evelyn realized it, another month had passed.

She convinced herself that she was doing everything for Amelia.

Every business deal.

Every sleepless night.

Every sacrifice.

She believed that one day, when everything was finally settled, she would slow down and enjoy life with her daughter.

But that day never seemed to come.

That morning, Evelyn arrived at her office earlier than everyone else.

She placed her handbag on the desk and immediately opened her laptop.

Her phone began ringing.

She answered.

“Yes?”

“Good morning, Madam Anderson. It's Mr. Cole.”

“Go ahead.”

“We've received the documents from the overseas partners.”

“Send them to my email.”

“They requested a physical meeting.”

“Schedule it.”

“They suggested Friday.”

“Thursday.”

“But Thursday is—”

“Thursday,” Evelyn repeated.

There was silence on the other end.

“Yes, Madam.”

She ended the call.

Another call came almost immediately.

Then another.

By seven-thirty, Evelyn had already handled three business matters.

At eight, she entered the boardroom.

Her directors were waiting.

She sat at the head of the table.

“Let's begin.”

For the next two hours, nobody talked about anything unrelated to business.

Evelyn reviewed figures.

She questioned expenses.

She challenged proposals.

She rejected two ideas and approved three others.

By the time the meeting ended, everyone looked exhausted.

Evelyn didn't.

She simply gathered her documents.

“Send me the revised report before noon.”

“Yes, Madam.”

She walked out.

One of the directors watched her leave and quietly shook his head.

“She doesn't know how to rest.”

Another laughed softly.

“Does she even know what rest means?”

They all laughed.

But nobody said it loudly enough for Evelyn to hear.

Because everyone knew her.

She didn't tolerate laziness.

And she considered unnecessary enjoyment a waste of valuable time.

That afternoon, something unusual happened.

Her employees had secretly planned a small celebration for her.

It wasn't a business event.

It wasn't a meeting.

It wasn't connected to a contract.

They simply wanted to appreciate her.

Evelyn's birthday was approaching, and some of her employees believed their boss deserved a moment to relax.

They decorated a small section of the company with balloons and arranged a beautiful cake.

They even prepared a speech.

When Evelyn walked into the room and saw everything, she stopped.

Her expression immediately changed.

“What is this?”

Everyone became quiet.

Her assistant stepped forward.

“Madam, we wanted to surprise you.”

“Why?”

“For your birthday.”

Evelyn looked around the room.

The balloons.

The cake.

The drinks.

The smiling faces.

She looked at the clock.

“How long have you been preparing this?”

The assistant swallowed.

“About two hours.”

Evelyn's eyebrows rose.

“Two hours?”

Nobody answered.

She walked toward the cake.

It had her name written across it in elegant icing.

For a brief moment, she stared at it.

Then she sighed.

“Two hours that could have been spent working.”

The smiles disappeared.

One employee lowered his head.

Another quietly switched off the music.

Her assistant looked disappointed.

“Madam, we only wanted to make you happy.”

“I appreciate the thought,” Evelyn said, though her voice remained firm. “But I don't need celebrations. I need results.”

She picked up her documents.

“Clean this place and return to work.”

Then she walked away.

The room remained silent.

The employees slowly began removing the decorations.

Nobody blamed Evelyn.

They were used to her.

She was a woman who measured life in achievements.

To Evelyn, happiness could wait.

Rest could wait.

Celebrations could wait.

Family could wait.

Everything could wait.

Except work.

That evening, she returned home late.

Her mansion was quiet.

She removed her shoes, walked into the living room, and found several unopened gifts on a table.

One was from Amelia.

Evelyn picked it up.

She smiled faintly.

She opened the card.

There were only a few handwritten words.

“I love you, Mom. I hope you're taking care of yourself.”

Evelyn stared at the message.

For the first time that day, she didn't know what to say.

She sat down on the sofa.

Her eyes moved around the enormous room.

Everything was perfect.

Everything was expensive.

Everything was hers.

Yet the house felt strangely empty.

Her phone rang.

It was Amelia.

Evelyn looked at the screen for several seconds before answering.

“Hello, darling.”

“Mom!”

Amelia's voice immediately brightened.

“How are you?”

“I'm fine.”

“Are you working?”

Evelyn smiled.

“When am I not?”

Amelia laughed.

“That's exactly what I'm talking about. You work too much.”

“I have responsibilities.”

“You always say that.”

“And it's true.”

There was a short silence.

Then Amelia spoke more softly.

“Mom, when I graduate, I want us to spend some time together.”

Evelyn leaned back.

“Of course.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.”

“Don't cancel on me.”

“I won't.”

Amelia laughed.

“Good. Because I'm coming home soon.”

Evelyn's expression changed.

“Soon?”

“Yes. Very soon.”

For a moment, Evelyn felt something warm in her chest.

Her daughter was coming home.

Maybe things would finally be different.

Maybe she would take a break.

Maybe she would spend time with Amelia.

Maybe she would finally learn how to enjoy the life she had spent so many years building.

But the thought lasted only a moment.

Her phone vibrated with another business notification.

Evelyn looked at it.

A new contract needed her attention.

She stood up.

“I have to check something.”

“Mom…”

“I'll call you tomorrow.”

“You said that yesterday.”

Evelyn smiled awkwardly.

“I mean it this time.”

She ended the call.

Then she walked toward her home office.

Behind her, Amelia's unopened gift remained on the table.

And once again, Evelyn chose work over everything else.

She had no idea that the arrival of one unexpected person would soon turn her carefully controlled life upside down.

And she had absolutely no idea that the greatest lesson of her life would come from someone she never expected to meet.

Her new driver.
