The Small Child

Across from me sat a small child, her head tilted down and her filth ridden blonde hair covering any visible part of her face. Her sickly pale skin was covered in scratches and blood, fingers twitching and clothes torn.

I've been seeing her every night in my dreams. She would just sit there on the floor in the center of the dark and small room. It smelled badly, but for some reason, it feels so familiar.

We never spoke to each other. At first I did try, asked her questions like, 'Who are you?', 'What's wrong?' or 'Do you know where we are?'. She never answered though.

Tonight though, it felt different. Something was going to happen, and the first indication was that instead of sitting down, cross-legged on the floor. She was stood up. The second indication, was the fresh blood dripping off the tips of her torn and broken finger nails and onto the floor.

Drip... drip... drip...

Slowly, I stepped forward, one foot at a time. My footsteps echoed in the room quietly until I stopped in front of the girl. Raising a hand onto her bony shoulder, I tried to get a glance at her well hidden face.

"Hey..." I spoke to her gently, hoping for an answer. "Are you okay?"

Nothing happened for a few minutes. Everything was silent, until a growl echoed around the room. Her growl. It was low and quiet at first, slowing becoming louder and louder with each breath she took.

Beginning to become scared by the growls the girl was producing, I removed my hand from her shoulder and took a few steps back away from.

The girls head moved, she was lifting it up! Her hair moved out of the way of her face, only showing half of her face. Or... What was left of it anyway...

It shocked me, the left side of her face... it was all burnt to a crisp. Skin black as coal and her wide, bright blue eye stared down at me. She snarled and stumbled towards me slowly. Each step was agonizingly long, it felt like a century before she finally reached me, while I had backed onto the wall. Trying to stay away from her.

When the girl stopped in front of me, I raised a hand up slowly, poking a finger out towards her. Her eye followed it, as I brushed the remainder of her blonde hair away from her face and behind her crispy black ear.

Her entire face was burnt off, no blisters, blood or pale skin like the rest of her body that could be seen. It was just burnt black like a piece of meat you would get at a family barbecue.

The small child growled again, her mouth opening and showing her yellow teeth, a couple missing in the front. I whimpered, scared as her face neared my body. I tried to push myself further into the wall.

I turned my face to the side, closing my eyes and holding my breath in fear. I could finally smell the burnt flesh of her face as she moved it right in front of mine, even when I moved it to the other side.

She growled again, before muttering something under her breath in a gargled voice.

"Runnnn..." Opening my eyes slowly, I looked at her for a few seconds until what she said sunk in. I suddenly felt my body fall backwards into a dark abyss and the girl becoming smaller and smaller in my sight.

I screamed, bolting upright from my slumber. Heart pounding in my head, I close my eyes, gasping for air to calm my racing heart. I heard a familiar growl. One from the dream I just had. Slowly opening my eyes, they met the same wide, blue eyes of the girls from before.

This wasn't a dream this time, I could feel it. Terrified, I watched as she released another growl, before lunging forwards onto my bed, mouth wide open and yellow, rotten teeth sinking into the skin of my neck and tore it apart. My body had been pushed back on to the mattress, my mouth filling with blood as I gargled and choked on it. The metallic taste of the liquid and the pain from my throat over powered my senses as the girl... Zombie... Creature ripped my body apart. I couldn't feel it, as my body went numb from the pain in my neck.Blood dribbled down the corner of my lips as my vision quickly started to turn black. Not that I could see very much anyway in the darkness of my room.I could no longer, feel, see or smell anything. I could only taste the blood in my mouth and listen as the thing chewed on my flesh. before it became quieter and quieter. The taste had slowly disappeared as well. The last thing I heard... Was from the creature..."You should have ran."Then nothing...
