The Keeping

"The Keeping: Dark Tales is a beautifully haunting collection of folkloric dark fantasy about grief, memory, love, guilt, choice, and the things people refuse to let go of. Each tale has its own strange rule or old superstition, yet the stories feel connected by a shared heartbeat. The darkness is rarely there just to frighten. It reveals something deeply human underneath. A mother chooses the child she raised over blood. A widow becomes a town’s measure of time while quietly disappearing inside her grief. A cursed girl discovers the difference between being wanted and being taken. A man carries sorrow for decades because love is still sharing the weight, even after death. What stayed with me most was the tenderness hidden inside the darker moments. These stories can be eerie, cruel and heartbreaking, but they are never empty. Again and again, the characters are given a choice: what to keep, what to release, what to forgive, and what they will no longer surrender. The prose has the feeling of old stories told beside a fire, simple on the surface but carrying much more underneath. A dark, thoughtful and quietly emotional collection that lingers long after the final tale."
