Chapter 1 - THE CAVE
Long before the world knew their names, before the temple, before the curse, before Gharamaj became a village feared by its own people…
There lived two lovers.
Shai and Akhila.
They were not warriors.
They were not gods.
They possessed no extraordinary powers.
They were simply two young people who had fallen deeply, hopelessly, and genuinely in love.
And sometimes, the purest kind of love is the most dangerous.
Gharamaj was an ancient village hidden far away from the cities of India.
The people of Gharamaj lived differently from everyone else.
They did not believe in friendship.
They did not trust their neighbors.
They avoided forming relationships, believing that closeness between people only brought suffering.
Even families lived with distance between them.
The villagers believed they had all been cursed.
And because they believed themselves cursed, they treated love as though it were a crime.
No one was supposed to become too attached to another person.
No one was supposed to love deeply.
And most importantly…
No one was supposed to break the rules of Gharamaj.
Shai and Akhila were neighbors.
They had grown up seeing each other almost every day.
And they were considered the two most beautiful people in the village.
But beauty meant nothing in Gharamaj.
No one cared.
No one celebrated it.
No one was supposed to care about anyone at all.
Yet somehow, the universe had brought them together.
At first, it was only glances.
Then smiles.
Then secret conversations.
Until one day, they realized something neither of them could deny.
They were in love.
A love that could cost them their lives.
So they hid it.
Every meeting had to be secret.
Every touch had to be quick.
Every smile had to disappear before anyone noticed.
Until Shai found the perfect place.
A cave.
Far away from Gharamaj.
Hidden among rocks and trees where no villager would ever think to search.
Shai discovered it first and slowly made it their own.
He cleaned it.
He decorated it.
And across the walls, he carved the names that meant everything to him.
SHAI.
AKHILA.
Sometimes, he would stare at their names and smile.
“This is ours,” he would tell her.
Akhila would look around nervously.
“What if someone finds us?”
“They won’t.”
“What if they do?”
Shai would take her hand.
“Then I’ll face them.”
“You don’t understand, Shai.”
“I understand one thing.”
He would look directly into her eyes.
“I’m more afraid of losing you than I am of losing my life.”
Those words always frightened Akhila.
Because somewhere inside her, she knew that one day Shai might have to prove them.
The two lovers were devoted believers of Lord Krishna.
They believed that love, when pure, could never truly be destroyed.
So they decided to make their hidden cave sacred.
They brought small offerings.
They prayed together.
They placed symbols of Lord Krishna inside the cave.
And every time they entered, they asked for one thing.
That their love would last forever.
Soon, the cave no longer felt like an ordinary cave.
It felt peaceful.
Warm.
Almost alive.
The walls carried their names.
Their prayers filled the darkness.
Their laughter echoed through the stone.
And the love between them seemed to transform the place into something far greater than either of them understood.
They called it their home.
The Home of Love.
But they did not know what they were creating.
They did not know that the promises made inside those walls would survive longer than their own lives.
They did not know that the cave would become connected to something far greater than their love.
Something that would reach across lifetimes.
One evening, Akhila sat beside Shai inside the cave.
She held his hand tightly.
“I don’t want to lose you.”
Shai smiled.
“You won’t.”
“Promise me.”
“I promise.”
“Forever?”
“Forever.”
Akhila looked at the small flame burning before them.
Then she looked at Shai.
“Then let us make a promise that even death cannot break.”
Shai understood immediately.
A blood oath.
They carefully cut their palms and pressed them together.
Blood mixed with blood.
And before the presence of Lord Krishna, they made their promise.
That no matter what happened…
No matter how far apart they were taken…
No matter how many years passed…
Their love would remain.
The moment their blood touched, the flame before them suddenly grew brighter.
Neither of them noticed the strange light that moved across the walls.
Their names seemed to glow.
For a brief moment, the entire cave felt different.
Almost magical.
Then everything returned to normal.
Shai laughed softly.
“See?”
Akhila smiled.
“See what?”
“Nothing can separate us.”
But the universe had heard their oath.
And the universe never forgot promises made with pure love.
Their secret did not remain a secret forever.
One day, someone saw them.
Someone followed them.
Someone discovered the cave.
And soon…
Gharamaj knew.
The villagers were furious.
They dragged Shai and Akhila from the cave and beat them mercilessly for breaking the rules.
Akhila cried.
Shai tried to protect her.
But there were too many of them.
And there was no one willing to save them.
At the center of the crowd stood Jaggi, the head of Gharamaj.
His face carried no sympathy.
Only anger.
“You knew the rules.”
Shai could barely stand.
He looked toward Akhila.
“I love her.”
Jaggi’s expression hardened.
“Then you have chosen your fate.”
Akhila screamed.
“Please!”
But Jaggi turned toward the villagers.
“Kill them.”
The words silenced the crowd.
Even Shai knew what was coming.
He reached for Akhila’s hand.
She reached back.
Their fingers locked together.
For the final time.
The villagers carried out Jaggi’s order.
And when it was over, two wooden layouts were prepared inside the very cave where Shai and Akhila had sworn to love each other forever.
The place that had once held their laughter became their final resting place.
Their bodies were placed upon the wooden structures.
The villagers believed they were ending a forbidden love.
They believed they were restoring the rules of Gharamaj.
They believed Shai and Akhila’s story was finished.
But they were wrong.
Because the moment their lives ended…
something else began.
The blood oath remained.
Their names remained carved into the walls.
Their prayers remained suspended in the darkness.
And the love they had created inside that cave did not die with them.
It became something the villagers could never destroy.
Something the passage of time could never erase.
Something powerful enough to cross lifetimes.
Shai and Akhila’s story had not ended.
It had only begun.
