Unwanted Visitor
Shantyville, Maryland
It was an overcast night as I was in my cabin, roasting marshmallows by the fireplace. The sound of the fire crackling kept the place from being too silent. This was such a remote area with no Wi-Fi. There was no fire department nearby, not even a hospital. Note to self; don't burn the cabin down.
The marshmallows were now done and I ate them. A knock was heard on the door. My heart skipped a beat. I just stayed as silent as possible. In a small, isolated town like this, there was no law enforcement.
The door creaked open, and in stepped a horrible looking creature with a pumpkin for a head. Shaking like a leaf, I backed away from him.
"Sit, I need to talk to you!" He demanded.
"About what?" I asked.
"Just sit down!" He hissed. "You got any Bagel Bites around here? I'm famished as a horse."
"No, now what is it that you want?"
"You're not from around here, are you?" The horrible creature asked.
"N, n, no, I am from Connecticut," I stammered. "I'm just renting this cabin for the weekend."
"I see," the horrible creature said. "Well, how long do you plan on staying?"
"Leaving Monday," I replied.
"That's all I wanted to know," said the horrible creature. "I'll leave you alone now. You have a good night."
"Yeah, you too," I said. "Good bye now."
"You can call me, Pumpkinhead!"
