AETURNUS COR (Chapter 1+)

Part 2: ARISE

ACT 4: The Veritas Blade

The main cell block was a chaotic nightmare of smoke, screaming civilians, and flying dark magic.

Izo moved like a hurricane of black flame, his twin broadswords shattering the hunters’ defense lines. Austin fired two rapid shots, dropping two charging lesser daemons, but a wave of kinetic force from Izo launched Austin across the room, slamming him into a support beam.

Figor parried Izo’s flaming blade, but the sheer force of the blow shattered Figor’s guard, sending his silver, three-strand spiral sword flying from his grip. The blade clattered across the stone floor, landing near the far wall.

“Austin! Jessica! Take the women and fall back!” Figor roared, coughing blood as Izo kicked him in the chest, sending the veteran Commander crashing onto his back. “That’s an order! Go!”

“Commander, no!” Austin yelled, grabbing two weeping women and shoving them toward the exit.

Izo unleashed a massive fireball into the archway ceiling.

CRASH!

A heavy cascade of masonry and iron girders collapsed, cutting off the escape route. Myndy tripped over a pile of rubble, falling hard onto her hands and knees as debris rained down around her.

“Myndy!” Elora screamed.

Disregarding the smoke and chaos, Elora turned around and sprinted back into the danger zone. She hauled Myndy to her feet, ducking under a falling beam, and shoved her through a narrow gap in the fallen stone into Austin’s waiting arms.

“Get her out!” Elora yelled.

As Elora turned to follow, her eyes fell on Figor.

The Commander lay helpless on the floor, his chest armor cracked. Izo stood over him, raising his black broadsword with both hands, his eyes burning with triumphant malice.

“You have no idea what is truly at play here, hunter,” Izo sneered down at Figor. “And you won’t be meddling anymore.”

Elora didn’t think. She didn’t calculate.

Her eyes caught the faint, shimmering glow of Figor’s fallen weapon resting near her feet—the Veritas Blade.

Unlike flat mortal swords forged for slashing, this weapon was built in a three-strand spiral helix—a sacred relic designed to pierce through dense daemon hide and channel raw divine light directly into the core of the shadow, unravelling dark magic from the inside out.

Elora reached down and wrapped her bare fingers around the hilt.

FLASH!

A blinding, radiant pillar of white and gold light erupted from the spiral steel. The divine light burned away the dark smoke, illuminating every corner of the subway chamber.

Before Izo could bring his sword down on Figor, Elora moved in a fluid, terrifying blur.

She lunged forward, driving the spiral point of the Veritas Blade straight through the back of Izo’s heavy chest plate.

THWACK.

Izo froze. The dark flames on his swords instantly vanished. White-hot divine light burst from his eyes, mouth, and the cracks in his obsidian armor, unravelling his dark magic from the inside out.

James and Celene burst into the room just in time to witness the sight: a amnesiac girl in a ruined dress, holding a legendary angelic relic, pinning a high-tier daemon commander to the earth.

Izo coughed, black ash spilling from his lips as he turned his head slightly toward Elora. “That’s... that’s not how... she said it would end...” he whispered in sheer disbelief.

With a final, blinding flash, Izo’s entire body burst into a harmless cloud of magical shadow dust, leaving only the Veritas Blade humming softly in Elora’s trembling hands.

Elora stood frozen, completely stunned and shaken by what she had just done.

She dropped the blade.

“How did you do that?” Celene asked, her voice hushed in disbelief. “Mortal humans can’t touch angelic steel without their flesh burning to the bone. Who are you?”

“I... I don’t know,” Elora whispered, looking at her bare palms in horror. “I don’t know...”

Austin rushed over, helping a groaning Figor to his feet. Figor clutched his bruised ribs, his piercing eyes locked onto Elora.

“She comes with us,” Figor wheezed, his voice leaving no room for argument.

“Why?!” James snapped immediately, his hand tightening. “She’s an unknown civilian! We don’t know what she is or where she came from!”

Figor held up a hand, silencing his second-in-command. “Enough, James. She saved my life... and she wielded the Veritas Blade.” Figor let out a heavy sigh, turning toward the exit. “Now let’s go. I’m hungry.”

ACT 5: Forged in Iron

The next six months were a relentless, punishing blur.

In the subterranean training halls of the Fiendbane Geld headquarters, Elora learned what it meant to survive.

PAK!

Elora hit the padded gym mat hard, the wooden training sword clattering from her grip. She gasped for air, sweat dripping from her forehead, her muscles screaming in agony.

“Again,” Figor commanded, standing over her with his arms crossed, his wooden blade held casually at his side. “In hand-to-hand combat, a daemon won’t wait for you to catch your breath. Get up!”

Elora wiped the sweat from her eyes, pushed herself off the mat, and picked up her blade.

Day after day, it was the same gruelling routine: five hundred push-ups, endless miles through the obstacle courses, and hour after hour of sword discipline under Figor’s unforgiving eye.

Across the training balcony, James stood leaning against the iron railing, his arms crossed over his chest, watching Elora down on the floor with cold annoyance.

Jessica stepped up beside James, taking a sip from her water canteen. “Why do you stare at her like that, James? What did she ever do to you?”

“She doesn’t belong here,” James said coldly, his eyes tracking Elora’s movements. “She has no past, no records, no bloodline in the Guild registries. She just appeared out of thin air.”

Austin walked up behind them, leaning on his tactical axe. “She held the Veritas Blade, James,” Austin said with a small, knowing smirk. “Something you’ve been trying to do ever since you got here.”

James turned his head, glaring at Austin. “That relic picks its wielder, Austin. And I intend to be one of them.”

ACT 6: The Hunters’ Oath

Late one night, Figor, Austin, and Celene led Elora deep beneath the headquarters into a secluded, stone-walled vault that felt centuries older than the rest of the facility.

In the center of the room stood an altar of ancient basalt. Resting atop a faded velvet cushion was a heavy, silver-bound amulet, pulsing with a faint, pale blue light.

“This is the heart of our purpose, Elora,” Figor said softly, his voice echoing off the ancient stone.

Elora stepped closer, staring at the amulet. A strange, inexplicable sensation brushed against her mind—a feeling of tragic familiarity that made her heart ache.

“Centuries ago, the ancient order of Silvanis was created to watch over a subterranean tomb outside Greyhaven,” Figor explained, his face grim. “Inside that tomb lies a Primordial entity—a beast of absolute destruction sealed away during the dark ages. Our entire order, the Fiendbane Geld, exists for one singular duty: to keep that seal intact and protect this amulet.”

Figor looked directly into Elora’s eyes. “If that Primordial ever wakes up... it will spell the absolute ruin of this world. Today, you take the oath & become one of us & to protect this secret .”

Elora reached out, gently placing her right hand over the silver surface of the amulet. The pale crystal hummed softly against her palm.

Figor, Austin, and Celene raised their right hands, speaking the ancient words in unison as Elora repeated them, her voice clear and resolute:

“I swear by the light that fades and the darkness that endures.

I will guard the veil between worlds.

I will hunt the daemons that prey on the innocent.

I will protect the seals and the sleeping one.

My life for the fallen.

My death for the living.

Until the final dawn.”

To be continued…
