CHAPTER-1

                        THE UNEXPECTED REUNION

~•~

Your fingers tightened around the strap of your handbag as you stood outside the glass doors of Jeon Corporation.

The building seemed much bigger than it had looked in the pictures. Tall glass windows reflected the afternoon sunlight, expensive cars passed through the entrance, and people dressed in perfectly pressed suits hurried through the lobby.

You swallowed nervously. Today was your job interview. Your first serious interview after graduation. You had spent the entire morning preparing.

You had practiced your introduction at least twenty times. You had checked your resume over and over again. You had even changed your outfit three times before finally settling on something simple and professional.

Yet none of that could prepare you for the strange feeling sitting heavily in your chest. You took a deep breath.

"You can do this."

You whispered the words to yourself.

Your fingers nervously smoothed the fabric of your blazer before you finally stepped inside.

The moment you entered the lobby, the cold air from the air conditioner brushed against your skin.

You walked toward the reception desk.

"Excuse me," you said softly. "I'm here for an interview."

The receptionist smiled politely.

"Name?"

"kim YN". You said softly.

She typed something into her computer before looking back at you. "Yes. Your interview is scheduled for eleven. Please take a seat. Someone will call you shortly."

You nodded. "Thank you."

You walked toward the waiting area and sat down. Your heartbeat was still slightly too fast. You looked around the office, trying to distract yourself. People moved around confidently.

Phones rang.

Printers hummed.

Employees spoke quietly to one another.

Everything felt unfamiliar. You took out your phone and checked the time.

10:42 A.M

You still had eighteen minutes.

You exhaled slowly.

Then-

A group of employees suddenly stood up near the elevator.

"Good morning, sir."

You barely paid attention, You were too busy looking at your resume, Until you heard a familiar voice.

Deep.

Calm.

Unmistakable.

"Good morning."

Your fingers froze. The paper in your hand suddenly felt impossibly heavy.

Your heart skipped.

No. It couldn't be.

Slowly... Painfully slowly...

You lifted your head, And there he was.

Four years had passed. But you recognized him instantly.

Jeon Jungkook.

He looked nothing like the schoolboy you remembered. The messy-haired boy who used to sit beside you in class was gone.

In his place stood a man dressed in a perfectly tailored black suit.

His hair was neatly styled.

His shoulders looked broader.

His expression was sharper.

More controlled.

There was something intimidating about him now.

But his eyes.......Those eyes were still the same.

Four years.

It had been four years since you had last seen Jeon Jungkook.

Four years since you had stood in the middle of the school corridor, trying desperately not to let your trembling lips reveal how badly your heart was breaking.

And four years since you had looked into the eyes of the boy who had once meant everything to you and said the words that would change both of your lives.

"Don't bother me again. Ever."

You had walked away that day.

You never looked back. At least, that's what you had told yourself.

But sometimes, certain memories refused to stay buried. Like the way Jungkook used to smile whenever he saw you walking toward him.

The way he would quietly save you a seat during lunch without saying anything.

The way his fingers would accidentally brush yours when he handed you a notebook, only for both of you to immediately look away.

The way he would wait outside your classroom after school, pretending he had some completely unrelated reason to be there.

And those little moments...

They had meant everything to you.

Back then, Jungkook wasn't just your crush.

He was the boy who made ordinary school days feel special. The boy whose presence could make your entire mood change.

And, secretly.....You had been his too.

You just hadn't known how deeply.

Until the last day.

~•~

Present.

The same eyes you had once secretly stared at during class. The same eyes that used to soften whenever they found you.

Except now...

They didn't soften.

Jungkook walked through the lobby without looking around. Until his gaze accidentally landed on you.

Your eyes immediately met his. For a second, you couldn't move.

He looked completely different now. Taller, sharper, more mature.

But those eyes...

You would recognize them anywhere.

Your lips parted slightly.

His eyes stayed on yours for barely a second.

And then-

Nothing.

No surprise.

No anger.

No emotion at all.

He simply looked away and walked past you. As if you were a complete stranger.

Your eyes followed him until he disappeared down the hallway.

You slowly lowered your gaze, your fingers tightening around your resume.

At exactly 11:00, the receptionist looked up from her computer.

"Miss, you can go now."

You immediately straightened in your seat. "Really?"

She nodded and handed you a small visitor card. "Twenty-first floor. Mr. Jeon will be taking your interview personally."

Your fingers stopped around the edge of the card.

Mr. Jeon.

You already knew who that was.

Your heart gave an uncomfortable little thud. Please don't let it be him.

But somewhere deep inside, you already knew. You thanked the receptionist and walked toward the elevator.

The moment the doors closed, you finally allowed yourself to breathe.

Your reflection stared back at you from the shiny metal walls.

You looked nervous.

Too nervous.

your mind kept replaying that one moment. His eyes meeting yours. That emotionless expression. The way he simply walked past you.

You pressed the elevator button and took a slow breath. The doors opened. You stepped inside.

21. You pressed the button.

You rubbed your palms against your trousers and took a slow breath.

What if he remembers everything?

What if he asks why you said those things?

What if he hates you?

You swallowed. The elevator reached the twentieth floor.

Ding.

The doors opened. You stepped out. The atmosphere immediately felt different.

The floor was quieter and more sophisticated. Large glass windows overlooked the city, while employees walked through the hallway with folders and tablets in their hands.

You approached the assistant sitting outside a large office. Your heart dropped. You stared at the large wooden door in front of you. For a moment, you couldn't move. Then you slowly raised your hand and knocked.

"Come in."

That voice. Your fingers tightened around the handle. You pushed the door open.

And there he was. Jungkook sat behind a large desk, looking through some documents. He was wearing a black suit with a white shirt underneath, his sleeves perfectly rolled up at his elbow.

He didn't look like the boy from your memories anymore.

He looked like someone you couldn't simply walk up to and talk to.

Someone distant.

Powerful.

Untouchable.

His eyes remained on the documents.

"Please, sit."

You stood there for a second. He hadn't even looked at you properly. You quietly pulled the chair out and sat down.

Jungkook finally lifted his gaze.Your eyes met. For one tiny moment, something flickered in his eyes.

Recognition.

Pain.

Anger.

Then it disappeared. His expression became completely professional.

"Your name?"

You blinked. He knew. Of course he knew. But he was asking anyway.

You quietly answered. "k-kim Y-Yn".

He nodded and looked down at your resume. "I've reviewed your application."

His voice was calm. Formal.

Like you were nothing more than another candidate sitting across his desk.

You stared at him.

He turned a page. "Tell me about yourself."

Your heart twisted. He was acting like he had never known you. Like you had never sat beside him in a classroom.

Like he had never waited for you after school. Like his fingers had never intertwined with yours during those quiet moments when nobody was watching. Like you had never been the person he once loved. You forced yourself to focus. You began answering his questions.

He listened quietly. No unnecessary interruptions. No smile. Just occasional nods as he made notes on your resume.

When you finished, he asked, "Why do you want this position?"

"Because I believe my skills match the requirements, and I want to gain experience in a professional environment where I can grow." He studied you for a moment. "Your academic record is good. But experience is different from academics."

You nodded.

"What would you do if you were given a task you didn't know how to handle?"

"I'd try to understand it first, research if necessary, and ask for guidance rather than submitting something incomplete."

Jungkook's pen stopped.

He looked at you again. "hmmm."

One word. Yet somehow, hearing it from him made your chest tighten.

He glanced at the clock before closing your file. "That will be all."

You slowly stood. "Thank you for your time, S-sir."

The word had slipped out awkwardly, and you immediately looked at him.

Maybe he would say something but he simply looked at you with cold eyes which shows no warmth "Is there anything else miss YN".

You looked down at your hands.

Your heart was aching in a way you hadn't expected.

You quietly said "No".

"Than you can leave". He said looking straight into your eyes. His tone remained coldly professional.

"We'll contact you regarding the result."

You slowly turned toward the door. Your hand had almost reached the handle when his voice stopped you.

"Miss YN."

You froze. Slowly, you turned around.

Jungkook was still sitting behind his desk. His expression was unreadable. For a second, you thought he might finally say something about the past. Something about school. Something about you.

But instead, he simply said,

"Close the door on your way out."

Your heart sank. You nodded. "Of course."

You walked out. The door clicked shut behind you. And the moment you disappeared from his sight, Jungkook's professional expression finally cracked.

His eyes closed. His hand tightened around the pen until his knuckles turned pale.

Four years.

Four years of convincing himself that he didn't care. That you had only played with his feelings. That he had forgotten you.

But seeing you sitting across from him had made one thing painfully clear.

He hadn't forgotten you.

Not even a little.
