The bookworm

The School gym bursting with sounds of people playing around and exercising  as I sit in the dark cramped corner alone as always it's not like I hated it. I actually quite enjoyed it, the only problem with everything is that it's way too noisy but I can easily blur away distractions.  By the way my name is Sophia in case you're wondering. While reading my book two of my friends I haven't spoken to for a while came up to me and asked if I wanted to play valley ball,

(yona) “ hey want to come play valley ball with us sophia?”

(Lilly) “yeah you haven't been talking much this would be good for you cmon.”

I don't even look at them. I just read my book ignoring whoever tries to talk to me. I didn't feel a hint of remorse.

A few hours later school is over. I'm overjoyed because I can finally go to the bookstore and get the latest copy of my favorite book. I've waited so long for this. As I reach the store I rush inside to grab the copy but it's empty, not a single copy in sight and the employee tells me they are sold out.

(Sophia) “gosh! I waited so long for this. I want my copy this cant be happening. I need this, fine, ill check every store until I find it.”

Which is exactly what I do store after store I search with no breaks but in the end I was never able to find my book, its getting dark now so I should just stop for now and try again tomorrow,

(Sophia) “ b but I don't want to.

I wipe my tears and as I head home only to bump into a group of girls from my school.

“Well well well look what the cat dragged in, why the sad face oh sorry you always look sad, ha ha ha!”

(Sophia) “leave me alone Jessica im not in the mood for this right now”.

I try to walk away but she grabs my wrist, I roll my eye and snatch my hand back as the bully stumbles backwards.

(Sophia) “I mean it I'm not in the mood!”

“You know just because you have no dad doesn't mean you can be a brat.”

(Sophia) “what did you say to me? What did you just say to me! You are not allowed to bring up my dad, that's none of your business! GOT THAT.”

Thats the last thing I say before im covered in bruises the girls lunged and me and beat me up turns out im all talk no bite, I limp home on my right foot after everything that happen I cant even be mad I just want my book but it seems I won't be getting it today.

When i get home I take off my shoes and right as im just about to head upstairs to my room to read my old book my mom calls out to me

(Mom) “ Sophia, is that you? Go wash up for dinner, okay it's almost done.”

(Sophia) “mom i was about to head to my room so I coul-”

My mom cuts me off before I could finish my sentence already knowing what I was going to say.

(Mom) “no buts sophia go wash up now dinner is done im setting the table hurry up.”

I march towards the restroom and wash my hands for dinner. My ankle is still hurting but not as much as my heart but I have nobody I can turn to who would listen to me.

(Sophia) “Mom, I'm washed up, happy now?”

I sit down at the dinner table across from mom. It's quiet and awkward for a few minutes until mom finally speaks but it's not the words I wanted to hear.

(Mom) “So I heard you sat out of gym class again today was it this time?”

(Sophia) “i… my stomach was hurting thats all”

(Mom) “I've had it enough with your lies don't you think so as well Sophia? Now out with the truth.”

(Sophia) “I'm not lying, it is the truth!”

What I was saying really was the truth. Well it wasn't a total lie that morning before I went to school i hadn't eaten anything so my stomach was hurting.

(Sophia) “Mom you never listen to me.”

Ever since dad passed mom has always been a bit cold  but she still loves me well at least that's what I want to think.

(Mom) “and you never talk to me, how am I supposed to listen to you if you never come to me!”

A river streams down my face as my mom shouts at me and my shoulders start shaking.

(Sophia) “Stop yelling, stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!”

(Mom) “your nose is always in that stupid book Sophia. You have an actual life full of actual people who love you, I love you Sophia.”

I stand up infuriated,  tears still streaming down my face uncontrollably as I slam my hands down onto the table.

(Sophia) You don't love me, no if you did you'd support the thing I love, you only say you love me whenever we argue because you think it would shut me up, calling my book stupid is calling the things I love stupid,  I think you're stupid!”

My mom stands up as well and walks around the table to stand next to me I thought she'd finally feel bad for me and console me but I was totally wrong she lifted her hand and glazed it across my face with full force I hold my face and look right into my mothers eyes the tears stop  and no longer crying I grab the cloth on the table and yank it causing all the dishes on the table to fall shattering them then I run up to my room and slam the door shut and lock it jumping on my bed screaming into my pillow.

(Sophia) “The only reason I read so much is because books make me feel emotions I'm never able to feel in real life.”

I sit up on my bed with dried tear stains on my face. I get up and walk over to my desk. I open my book and start reading.

Hours pass by now im absorbed into the book once im absorbed nothing can stop my reading its late at night now I feel a little shake but ignore it, my mom starts knocking over and over again but I ignore it until eventually I get tired and start drifting off my worries disappearing with it, my eyes grow heavy and heavier until I lay my head on my desk and pass. out its dark but its warm the ground starts shaking more and more until eventually the building collapses killing everyone in the building with it.

I wake up laying in a bed of grass on a small hill wearing strange clothes a white and purple dress and since when did I wear glasses, I sit up confused where I am and how did I get here, suddenly a large brown shiny carriage strolls down the nearby road it has a family person inside it i only seen that person in a book until now.

(Sophia) “Wait! Am I, am I in my book?! No it's impossible, it literally isn't possible. I must be dreaming, but I'll see where I am. I climb up the grassy hill trying to get to the road before the carriage disappears but I trip and scrape my hand.

(Sophia) “Ow this is a dream. It's not supposed to hurt”

By the time I reach the top the carriage is down the road already to far to catch all I see is the back of the carriage going somewhere I might already know the castle because there's no doubt now im in the kingdom with magic and princes I am in Alveara kingdom and im not even the main character im just some random traveler.

I look towards the carriage then back at the little town behind me then I lift my head towards the sky making a very worried face.

(Sophia) “Wait, if I was reincarnated into this world, what the heck am I supposed to do!?

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
