The Water Bird

Time passed yet the story of the little bird isn't over. To the say that it has begun would be an understatement for it already has a long time ago. Specifically, ever since the tower became her special place.

The little bird was a happy child without any siblings but with parents who loved her deeply. She was satisfied more than anything in their own little manor and became the obedient girl that they wished for her to be.

She never once complained as she understood everything her parents told her.

The child had a playmate who would climb up her tower and entertain her every single day. The young blue haired boy's name was Oberon. He was the one who introduced her to a parallel universe that she often visited while she left her body in the real world. He made her curious and happy.

And the little bird found herself wanting to stay forever with the young boy in her wonderland.

A knock came and shuffling could be heard from behind the gates of the manor one day when the young child and Oberon were playing. Just as she planned to open the gates, her parents stopped her and told her to never step outside or open the door to anyone else.

And as the obedient little girl she was, she nodded but deep inside, she didn't like the idea so much.

Years and years passed until the little bird became twelve, she met a lot of people who visited the colorful manor in the past and they gave her splendid gifts that would surely help her in the future. The one that she treasured the most was the cloak or hood woven with the finest magic in the whole universe.

And of course, that came from Oberon.

In that same year, her parents allowed her to open the gates and meet the woman who was looking for her. It was Mnemosyne whose hair was so dark that the little bird felt fear of the endless shadows and her eyes were something that one could not simply understand.

"I will take care of you, little bird. It's time to go." Mnemosyne told her as she placed a light hand on her left shoulder.

The girl looked at her parents, silently asking them what to do. To her great dismay, she could only see them turn away from her. She sighed as she gazed at the ground and tears threatened to spill down. She nodded and kept the question to herself as she saw that she had no choice. Her heart felt heavy and it was the first time she experienced it.

Why was it so sudden?

The little bird - free from her small cage - suddenly felt excited to use her new found freedom. She knew that Oberon would still be with her in this journey no matter what. Danger didn't touch her even once and it was all thanks to the cloak he gave her.

"Little bird, come now. We must watch." Mnemosyne gestured for her to come and sit beside her. And so she did, knowing that it was best to do so but she never expected it to be painful as the years go by.

Why did her wonderful qualities ever pointed a sword at her?

The little bird was frightened.

She lost her curiosity as she entered the cruel and ridiculous but beautiful world. She felt coldness creeping into her and she didn't want to be numb soon. She never dreamed of throwing away her emotions for the sake of survival.

So she sought advice from Mnemosyne but she was only given a reply to continue forward no matter what. Oberon helped her and tried to heal her emotions in order for her to remain sane. Everything helped but at the same time, it did not.

"What should I do?" The little bird asked the Fates.

"Continue spinning the thread and find the light." Was the young Clotho's reply.

"Adapt if you can." Lachesis said with amusement in her red eyes.

"And you might be able to survive." Atropos finished as she cut the thread and the little bird winced at the snap of the scissors.

And the little one left as she thanked them.

"Water." Oberon mumbled.

"I'm sorry?" The little bird asked, not sure if she heard him right.

"I can't seem to see you." He clarified with disappointment seeping in his tone.

"It's obvious she's there." Mnemosyne stated as she crossed her arms.

"Mnemosyne doesn't understand but what's important is that you're curious again, right?" Oberon smiled at the little girl and she returned it with a nod filled with felicity.

"I still have an adventure to finish. Come on." The little bird chirped and stood up.

Maybe the Fates were right. She simply had to become like water.

But in the end, she wondered and wandered.

Did she become the water or did she drown?
