Doctor Who | Gallifrey's Nightmare Child

Summary

The Doctor and Bill Potts originally planned on going to the planet Gliese 581d. That was until the Doctor received an SOS signal from somewhere impossible, so the Doctor followed it out of good conscience. The Doctor was in for a nasty shock when the sender stood in front of him face to face.

The Impossible

This story is set after the episode ‘The Pilot’. Anything past that episode isn't canon to the timeline of events that my version of the Doctor. I have my own plans for my version of the 12th Doctor, really peak plans. He has already appeared in a few of my other stories. This story is set before his appearances in any of my stories. I hope you enjoy this story.

---------------------------------------------------------

The interior was large, and had shelves with books on them, spread across two levels. In the very middle of the room was the round control panel, which had buttons, levers, screens, and a giant glass tube that moved up and down. The walls were made of dark metal, lit up by blue and orange lights. The interior had many of the Doctor's personal belongings, including tall bookshelves packed with books, blackboards, and an electric guitar leaning against the stairs. Metal staircases and balconies wrapped around the walls, with paths leading from the console's platform and the balconies.

The Twelfth Doctor leaned on the console with both hands. Standing beside him on the right was Bill Potts. They were going to go to the planet ‘Gliese 581d’, that was where Bill Potts was expecting to go with the Doctor.

“Are you alright?” Bill Potts asked.

“We might have to do a little detour, Bill.” The Doctor answered, looking at one of the screens on the console. “I'm getting sent coordinates- an SOS signal- and it's anonymous.”

“Why would anyone try to remain anonymous while sending an SOS signal?” Bill Potts lightly frowned while looking at the screen. On the screen was a red dot emitting waves, and they were the coordinates.

“That’s the thing, and I find it very suspicious. As if that's not suspicious enough, it is coming from somewhere…” The Doctor’s face scrunched, his eyes squinting, checking if what he was reading was correct.

The Doctor stepped back. “No. That's impossible.”

“I've seen you do the… the impossible.” Bill Potts tried giving encouragement, but it came out awkwardly, leaving her awkwardly smiling.

“I can see the SOS signal. I am receiving the signal. It's the distance… it's the distance is impossible.” The Doctor explained. He then looked at Bill Potts and continued. “Even travelling to parallel worlds is less impossible. And that alone is already impossible.”

“Is it possible you can fly us there?” Bill Potts asked nervously.

The Doctor smiled. “What did you say earlier- about seeing me do the impossible?”

Bill Potts blinked, unsure what to say.

The Doctor dropped his smile and turned back to the console, flicking a few levers and pressing a couple of buttons. “Of course I can fly us there. I always do the impossible. Just need to lock onto the signal so we can follow it and-”

The Doctor grabbed Bill Potts and pushed her hands against the console. “Hold tight Bill, this can get bumpy-”

The TARDIS began to take off…

Vworuhp… vworuhp… vworuhp… vworuhp… vworuooooORRRR… VWHAAAAARRRRRRRRReeeeeeeeee… vwhaaaaarrrrrrrrreeeeeeee… vwharreee…

Almost immediately, the TARDIS started violently shaking. Bill Potts was screaming, but the Doctor had an eccentric smile. “We're crossing a gap that is so impossibly massive, saying distance loses relevance isn't enough to picture the gap!”

The violent shaking stopped as immediately as it started. Bill Potts sighed with relief, then looked at the Doctor.

“That was it?” Bill Potts sounded unimpressed. She crossed her arms. “Doesn't seem all that impossible.”

“We just crossed a gap impossibly- unfathomably big- so whoever sent that signal is almost certainly trying to get my attention.” The Doctor stated. “An SOS signal- reaches my TARDIS- whilst an impossible distance away- this person definitely knows who I am.”

“It could be someone good?” Bill Potts sheepishly smiled.

The Doctor shrugged and started walking. “It could be anyone. We could even be walking into more Daleks for all we know.”

Vworuhp... vworuhp... vworuhp… vworuhp... vworuhp- THUD!

The TARDIS had just landed. The TARDIS had materialised at the location where the SOS signal was being sent.

“Stay behind me. It could be anyone.” The Doctor sternly warned as he walked down the steps and towards the doors. Bill Potts eagerly followed behind him.

The Doctor slowly opened the left door and looked outside. He looked up at the sky. What he saw was very concerning.

“I've seen someone put planets in the sky- no, it can't be the Daleks- no- no!” The Doctor pushed the left door wide open and ran out, but quickly stopped as soon as he saw there were no Daleks.

Bill Potts nervously stepped out of the TARDIS. She looked up at the sky and she was in awe. There were what looked like three Earths, and three other planets that were each larger than Earth. The perfect view was blocked by a large glass dome.

“Three Earths. Three other planets. And we're on an ‘Earth’. Parallel universe shenanigans are definitely afoot.” The Doctor mumbled as he looked up at the sky.

The Doctor looked at his surroundings. They were in a cylindrical room made of polished granite and polished marble walls. On the floor made of smooth stone, right in the centre of the room and perfectly parallel to the glass dome above, was a blue circle with a stylised infinity symbol.

The Doctor quickly noticed the symbol on the floor. “The Prydonian Seal. This means- this means it was a Time Lord- a Time Lord sent the SOS signal.”

Bill Potts looked excited. But the Doctor quickly shut her down. “I know that look, and it's not any news to celebrate or get excited about. At best you should be very concerned.”

The Doctor pulled out his sonic sunglasses and inspected the walls while Bill Potts was mesmerised by the sky. Meanwhile, the Doctor was looking for a secret door in the walls. He found one almost immediately, and pushed against it. The sudden groaning screech of stone made Bill Potts cringe and cover her ears.

When the Doctor finally pushed the door open, he took a deep breath, crouching slightly as he took his sunglasses off and put them away. “That door was at least three hundred kilograms. Maybe four hundred kilograms- blimey that was hard work.”

“How did you find that?” Bill Potts asked, snapping her head back to face the Doctor.

“Did you not see me put on my glasses?” The Doctor crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. He waved his right hand to the right. “Let's see what awaits us then shall we…”

When the Doctor and Bill Potts entered the room, they froze in horror. There was a metal tunnel that extended for ten metres and the walls had green lighting on the walls, but it obviously wasn't that which made the Doctor and Bill Potts freeze. On the floor were four human-looking beings that weren't humans, among actual humans. They laid on the floor as if they had been discarded.

“We've not just travelled to a parallel universe… we've travelled much further- I thought this was all just a theory… even so it shouldn't be possible…” The Doctor began hyperventilating slightly, then looked at Bill Potts with a worried look.

“What theory?” Bill Potts' breathing became shallow and inconsistent.

“The omniversal theory.” The Doctor replied with a shaky tone. “Simply put- A sees B as fiction in one part of the omniverse. But somewhere else, B sees A as fiction. We have somehow managed to travel from A to a version of B that's real, simply put- it shouldn't even be possible.”

“So those people down there… they're… they're fictional back home?” Bill Potts shook.

“Yes. Viltrumites, Saiyans and Kryptonians aren't real back home. But clearly they are real here. Those three other planets in the sky, they must be Viltrum, Krypton and Sadala- or Planet Vegeta.” The Doctor clarified, before looking at the people who were on the floor dead. “But it's not just those three species- there's Time Lords and humans among them on the floor here too. Whoever this Time Lord is, they must need their bodies for something, and it can't be anything good.”

At the end of the tunnel was a steel door. That door slid down, which led into another room, a dark room. First, only the nose and hands were visible, but then the full body was exposed by the green lighting, revealing a male figure who was around six feet tall. He had a brown leather coat that was worn and went down to the bottom of his waist. Underneath the coat he wore a white shirt and black tie underneath. His tattered trousers were dark grey and his solid boots were a perfect shade of black. He had white skin and messy brown hair.

However, it was the eyes the Doctor especially looked at. He gasped in shock when he looked into the individual's dark brown eyes. The individual’s eyes had a specifically horrible coldness to them. The Doctor instantly remembered who this individual was.

The Doctor looked at the figure and started stepping back with immense fear. “Bill, head back to the TARDIS- NOW!” He started yelling.

“Do what the Doctor says, chicken. You'll end up being killed, just like your friend Heather.” The individual warned. There was no emotion in his voice, only monotone coldness. “Heather was pretty easy to kill… Time field generator- simply forced the sentient liquid shapeshifter through over trillions of artificial years in seconds, and she simply broke apart and evaporated from atomic decay.”

Bill Pott’s mind froze, trying to process what the individual just claimed. “What!?”

The individual looked at Bill Potts, but the Doctor got in the way of the individual, blocking his view. Bill Potts immediately ran back into the TARDIS crying. Meanwhile, the Doctor continued stepping back while the individual walked forward.

“The last time I saw you, we were fighting in the Time War. Do you remember when I made you and the Master team up to save a Dalek out of sympathy because I was experimenting on it and torturing it too hard?” The individual sarcastically smirked ever so slightly, putting his hands behind his back and holding them there.

“Both of us… almost all Time Lords- almost all of us had to have our memories wiped- about you and that Dalek… for over a thousand years I believed you were just a legend as a result…” The Doctor’s hands became fidgety. He was terrified of the other Time Lord standing before him.

“Why so nervous, Doctor?” The individual said as he crossed his arms. The Doctor didn't say anything.

The individual uncrossed his arms, relaxing them and tilted his head forward. “You seem to be a rather shy incarnation.” He mockingly spoke. “Let's start off by introducing ourselves, I will kindly go first.”

The individual started slowly stepping forward. He stepped on the bodies in the tunnel deliberately. He only stopped when he came out from the other end of the tunnel. He leaned forward and spoke with the coldest voice he could.

“I. Am. The Butcher.”
