Chapter 1

Why was it always me. No matter how much I tried to be perfect, no family wanted to adopt a 17 year old girl.

“Y/n, dear, please come down here.” My foster mother said. I put on a T-shirt and shorts and walk down the stairs.

I see my foster mother and a man standing in the living room with my social worker. “Y/n this is Scott Clarke. He is here to adopt you.”

I scream and jump up and down. “REALLY!” She nods and I run and hug Mr. Clarke. “I’m sorry I say, stepping back and nervously look down. “It’s fine.” He says and smiles. My foster mother gives me a dirty look. “Go upstairs and pack YOUR stuff.” She says.

I walk upstairs with my head down and Scott comes up with me to help. “I don’t know why you would want a child like me, Clorissa says I am an ungreatful brat that doesn’t deserve a good home.”

I grab my suit case and start packing and Scott helps. “I picked you because you were mature and have a ruff background that I can relate to.” He helps me finish packing. I smile and hug him. “Thanks.... Dad.” He smiles. “No problem kiddo.”

When we get to his house, I stand outside staring up at it. “What do you do again?” I ask looking at the giant mansion like house. “I am an Earth and Biology science teacher at Hawkins middle school.” He says matter of factly. “Remind me to be one.” I say laughing.

He shows me my room and tells me that I can have fifty dollars to go shopping for decorations. I thank him and run out the door.

When I get to the mall, I go to the first store I see. Right away I pick out some things. A desk, a poster, a bed set, and a little side lamp and instead of using Scotts money, I use my own because I feel bad.

When I am walking through the mall I see a boy, he looks about my age. He looks and me and smiles. "Would you like some help with your bags?" He asks, smiling.

"I am not done, I would hate to drag you around with me." I say looking down, blushing.

"No, it's fine. If you don't have a ride home I can give you one. Are Mr. Clarke's adopted daughter?" He look at me questioningly.

"Why yes I am. My name is Y/n. You are?" I ask looking at him blankly.

"Steve, Steve Harrington. I can tell this is going to be an interesting year, Y/n." He says smirking.

He takes a couple bags and starts walking. For the first time I see how cute he is, and start to fallow him, not knowing what is to come of this day.
