Chapter 1

She walked along the crack-ridden sidewalk on her way to her tiny studio apartment off main street. Her foster brother had said he would move her stuff in for her "Go take a walk around the neighborhood its usually pretty nice this time of day" She wasn't sure if he had ment the people or the weather because she had yet to meet anyone who didn't avert their gaze from hers. "Well so far the weather is nice" she muttered to herself as she passed an older beggar woman. She had convinced her foster parents to let her move out so that she could to see the sights of New York as well as being closer to med school. She had already gone through pre-med back home, after she earned valadictorian she managed to get accepted to one of the best med schools in the state. Although It was seven months till school started, she wanted to move anyway so she could get aquainted with neighbors and work on her other objective, finding her real parents. She did't want to hurt her foster parents by telling them her more pressing reason for moving early.

She had grown to love her foster parents but needed to find her real ones. Just as she came up to the building she lived in her phone vibrated in her pocket, quickly she took it out and checked the caller ID, it was her brother Dillan. She hit the answer button and held it to her ear "Hey I'm right outside I'll be up in a second. You were right the weather is nice." She said in a sarcastic tone. She just heard Dillan chuckle on the other end of the phone before she hung up on him. Quietly she patted her way up the rickety stairs, that were clearly undermaintained, to her apartment on the thrid floor. It didn't suprise her that a new york city apartment building wasn't taken the best care of but it was all she could afford until she got a job. Dillan opened the door just as she stepped up to it "Hey Aly cat, what do you think? I know its not much and I'll help fix it up a bit seeing Mom and Dad let me come out here for a week while you settle in." She rolled her eyes at him calling her Aly cat but she stopped trying to correct him seeing it was a nickname he gave her when he was five and she was nine. Her full name was Aliana Marie Angelos a name with her already when her foster parents found her on the street.

She could barley remember the day they found her hiding amongst the trash cans. Aly was about eight years old and the only link to her name was a gold chain around her neck with her name engraved into a small teardrop. Her foster parents had said when they found her she was covered in trash and she had refused to talk. It took them a lot of convicing to get her to trust them, she was grateful for that but she had blocked it from her memory. Dillan snapped her out of her daze with a squirt gun full of cold water right in her face. She jumped slightly at the water then sneered at him "Really Dillan! Very mature as always. How you got mom and dad to let you live with me for a week I'll never know." Staring at the studio apartment she grimaced at the draft and the peeling wall paper, 'Think it will need a lot more than a little bit of work to fix it up' She thought while she wandered around.

Her thick boots made echoeing thuds as she walked on the hardwood floor. The kitchen living room and bedroom were all open space the only walls were the bathroom ones making her apartment maybe 600 square feet at most. Dillan had brought her bed up a dresser and a microwave but that was it for furnishing, he skipped over to her quickly and handed her an envelope. Eyeing it suspiciously she grabbed it and opened it to find a stack of crisp hundreds in it. One hand held the envelope the other was clasped over her mouth in shock "Where did this come from Dillan?" Dillan couldn't help but smile patting her on the back. He explained that his parents had been putting away one hundred dollars every month since she was adopted knowing she would need it to find her biological parents someday, "They know its your reason for moving out here, they may not be blood related but they are not stupid. It will help you get furniture a better car, and fix this place to make it your own." Aliana muffled a cry while tears rolled down her face.

It still made her feel like shit for lieing to her foster parents, because they were thoughtful enough to make her future easier to attain. Dillan pulled her in for a hug “you will always be my big sister no matter who our parents are. So lets get to work and get this place up to date.” He released her from his embrace with a wide grin on his face. They spent the day shopping for a fridge, a couch, and a small space saving table with a couple chairs. Even after buying all that Aliana had only spent three thousand five hundred dollars, she still had plenty to pay for a hopefully better car than the little gold saturn she drove. As night fell and Aliana pulled up in her new suburu station wagon Dillan was standing on the sidewalk clapping at her choice of car.

Aliana gave him a full toothed grin as she got out of her new ride, Dillan whistling a few cat calls at the beauty. He had suggested she go with that kind of car for good mileage and storage should she ever need it. With the new car and more furnished place taken care of Alyanna thought it best to celebrate by going to a club. Dillan furrowed his brows together in judgement at her suggestion “really sis? You want to go clubbing in New york city? Many women who go clubbing end up being victims of rape kidnap and murder, and I can’t protect you from that seeing I wont get by the bouncer.” Aliana sighed trying to reassure her brother “yes i want to go clubbing just for like an hour, it will give me the chance to meet neighbors, the club is just around that corner.” She pointed to a well lit sign barely half a block away from where they stood.

Dillan turned and looked at it then sighed looking back to her “alright seeing its not far and it is worth the celebration lets do it.” Aliana jumped up and down in excitement “yay lets get upstairs and change into clubbing clothes.” She raced up the three large flights of stairs with blazing speed as Dillan lugged behind. He didn’t like the idea of taking his older sister to a club to dance but it made her happy and he knew he would lose the argument if he tried talking her out of it further. It had suprised him that she didn’t want to stay in and maybe watch a movie seeing thats the type of girl she was, growing up she never went out to parties never slept around hardly left the house except to school. This new outgoingness worried him a little, it could attract the wrong kind of people especially in New York City.

Once Dillan made it upstairs she had already changed into a suprisingly tasteful but tight outfit, her long black hair fell in bouncy waves on her shoulders she wore a knee length white skirt with a red halter that flirted to show the curve of her breasts but still hid her clevage. Alianna twirled in the mirror and the skirt fanned out around her, Dillan couldn’t help but stare. Even though she was his sister and he never saw her in a sensual way he couldn’t help it seeing her dressed so different than her normal wear. Just before she turned to ask his opinion he wiped the drule from his mouth and tore his lustful gaze away from her muttering to himself ‘shes your sister you fuckin animal, maybe not by blood but still grew up as siblings’ Aliana smiled when she turned to face him “what do you think is it acceptable to go clubbing in?” Her cute smile drew him in again and her angelic features just wouldn’t let him give her a negative comment.

He snapped himself back into brother mode and mockingly tapped his index finger on his chin looking her up and down. Before he answered she impatiently tapped her foot and called him out “come on don't be an ass I want your honest opinion before its dawn.” That comment only made him examine her longer, squinting her eyes in frustration she marched over to him threateningly. Quickly he threw his hands up in submission “yes ok you look perfect for clubbing im sorry don't smack me.” Dillan did his best to duck but she managed to graze his head with a smack from her palm. He grunted at her strenth behind the hit rubbing the top of his head “what was that for i said sorry” Aliana shook her head and sighed, she knew he couldn’t go into a bar with her but at least the dance club around the corner he was going whether he liked it or not. They hadnt unpacked much when it came to clothes and Dillan hadn’t brought anything dance worthy so he put on a skull t shirt and biker jeans to at least make people think twice about messing with him.

When he came out of the bathroom Aliana scoffed at his outfit, “thats what you’re wearing?! You look ready for a biker gang not a club.” He shrugged off her comment with a simple retort “its either this or I aint going.” She pursed her lips in aggravation but opened the door for him anyway. As they walked down the steps Aliana paused at a door she hadn’t noticed one floor below hers, there was something familiar about it but she shook it off and continued out to the street. Dillan looked at her in confusion seeing she was right behind him, then disapeared "You ok Aly?" he asked as she stepped onto the sidewalk with a dazed look on her face. She slapped a smile on her face quickly "Yeah I'm fine just had a feeling of deja vu for some reason." She said shrugging the feeling off and lead the way to the dance club.
