Apartment
Your mother used to tell you that you had a purpose in this world that no one else could have. It was specific to you.
That was 10 years ago, but you still haven’t found it. You’ve just came to reality and realized that you really have no meaning to this world. Everything you do is just some sort of busy work that is done simply to be done.
Your thoughts get interrupted by a sudden voice that comes from the apartment beside yours. “Hey new neighbor!” A cheerful voice calls as your halfway through the door of your own apartment, grocery bags in both hands. The apartment has always been empty next to yours, but clearly not anymore.
“Hey!” You call back, getting a clear view of the red-haired male from across the hall. “How long have you been here?”
He shakes the box in his hands while motioning it to you. “Just today actually,” his big smile is contagious, and you too are soon smiling.
“Oh, I could help you if you’d like,” you offer.
He shakes up and down his head in response. “That’d be great. I’m Hoseok by the way.”
“I’m Y/N. I’ll be out in a sec, I just have to put a few groceries away.” You say shortly before disappearing in your apartment.
The small space barely fits your belongings and each shelf that lines your room is covered with memories. You smile as you pass the picture of you and your grandfather when you were youn. The task of putting away groceries takes no less than 5 minutes, considering the few bags you hauled up and into your apartment that sits on the very top floor.
As soon as your done you rush out to help your, hopefully, soon to be friend.
Politely, you knock softly on the door of his room. Almost immediately it opens and your once again faced with him. “Hey, so what can I do to help?” You ask while wiping your hands against your pants, not knowing what to do.
“I think I’ve got all of the boxes inside, so now it’s time for the fun part of UNPACKING!”
Is he always this optimistic? You think to yourself while nodding your head encouragingly.
“Where do we start?” You ask while walking into his bare apartment room. It’s a lot bigger than yours and even has a spare bedroom. You’re impressed at the sufficient amount of things he has, and vow to help him even though it may take a while. You don’t have school today, and would probably be cooped up in your room if not this.
“I have some tables and shelves that need to be put together still, so let’s do that first.” You follow him to a pile of boxes, and so the long process of unpacking begins.
“Aish,” you sigh while wiping sweat away from your forehead. “We’ve been at it for hours, but we’ve barely made a dent in unpacking all your stuff!” You say while gesturing with your hands to the boxes that are still untouched.
He frowns at the boxes while wiping a drop of sweat that creeps down his forehead. “Well, I’ll just have to continue tomorrow.” He gives a weak smile, but it still baffles you that he still possesses such energy to do so.
“I have school tomorrow, but I’d be glad to help after if you’re still not done.” You smile at him while walking to the front door.
“I had a lot of fun talking with you today, Y/N.” He spouts right as you’re about to close the door.
You stop yourself from closing it all the way to reply, “Me too! See you later.” It’s true that you have gotten to know him pretty well, even though most of the time was spent attempting to put things together and setting up different things around the room.
As soon as you enter your apartment you flop on your bed without thinking. “Ahhhhh,” you groan lowly. It’s gotten pretty late to the point where it’s already dark out. “I’m so tired...” you mumble to yourself, sleepily. Just as you were about to allow yourself to fall asleep completely, a loud thump comes from the roof, startling you. You flip your body over to look at your ceiling. It’s the same as it was before, bare with a couple of water stains here and there.
Right when you’re about to let it go, you hear another thud. It’s not nearly as loud, but you wonder what it could be. The only thing above you is the roof, since you’re on the top floor. It’s not meant to sustain the weight of anything heavier than snow and other natural things. That means it must not be anything too heav-
What. The. Heck.
The. Roof. Just. Collapsed. In. My. Room.
Right where you heard the noise, which was nearly right above you, the roof completely fell in, to the left of your bed. It’s one of the few empty places in your apartment, but from the looks of it, it could’ve taken down a shelf unit you had placed there.
A cloud of dust almost immediately fills your small apartment room, leaving you blind and coughing. Swiping at the air with your hands you manage to get up from your bed. Surprisingly, you manage to dodge the debris from your position on your bed, so you’re otherwise unaffected. The lights are completely out, so you rely on your phone, that was thankfully left in your back pocket, for light. A large pile of rubble and cold air sits in the middle of your dim room.
You move closer to inspect the situations and-
A person? The light blonde hair color seeps through the dark colors of roofing around it. There’s no mistake, it belongs to something living.
Maybe an animal? No, that can’t be.
A rather large portion of the roof has been taken out, you conclude while looking up at it. You move closer to the pile underneath the open ceiling and begin to remove some of the larger pieces that surround the flaxen hair. Whilst coughing, you manage to move a piece of rubble that reveals a patch of what seems to be fair skin. It’s pale and shows no motion or sense of life within it.
Just as you go to call someone for help, the mass of platinum blonde hair moves. In one swift motion a tall, might you say bare, figure appears before your eyes.
Yep, it’s definitely a human. The male stands with his back facing you... completely naked. Every muscle and vein on his body is on clear display for your viewing right now. His compact body moves with each deep breath he takes, and you stand frozen before him with the flashlight pointing directly at his back. It looks like something from a police chase. He’s the victim, surrounded by destruction, and he got caught. Except that makes no sense, he came from the roof.
You look at his back. His muscles continue to retract with each breath he takes. Not daring to look down any further, you decide on looking up at the ceiling... except there is none.
You struggle and decide on saying something. “Uh who are y-you?” It doesn’t come out as anything more than a whisper, but it gets his attention. He begins to turn around and- oh no. “NAKED!” You squeal while covering your eyes with your hands. You spread two of your fingers apart barely to reveal a small sliver of light to shed through.
Once again, you’re faced with a muscular chest, except this time it’s pointed towards you. You slowly tilt your head up, with your hands still covering your eyes, and look at his face. This boys body is literally glowing in front of you.
A ghost? No, that makes no sense.
His cheeks are rosy red and his natural, soft brown eyes squint at the light that you’re so graciously pointing at him.
Oh, that explains why he’s glowing. You move the light down, so it’s not directly in his eyes, but you can still see him. His hair is definitely not natural, but there’s a sort of liking that you have about it. It seems to suit his face in ways that you wouldn’t think. It accentuates his soft, round jaw. Not to mention his lips. They’re full and a bit swollen from the looks of it. He doesn’t look hurt though, but he’s just a bit dirty from all of the dust and roofing that came down. God only knows how many things have been up there.
Your audaciousness does not stretch to the extent that you’re willing to look down any further again. “W-were you possibly working on the roof?” You ask in attempts to make out the unexplainable situation, while trying not to sound like a complete idiot with your hand still over your eyes. He looks as though he’s the same age as you, yet he looks so small and innocent. He simply cocks his head sideways when you ask the question, as if not knowing what’s going on. Acting like he didn’t just fall from the roof. “Just s-stay right there. I-I’ll go get some help, alright?”
His eyes go wide upon your words, but you continue on and begin to walk to your standing door, which is more than you could say for a lot of your small room. Suddenly, you hear something rummaging and moving around and look back cautiously at the boy. He seems to be trying to get out of the cocoon that the rubble surrounds him in while half lying on it. “N-No!” You warn. “I don’t want you to get hurt. Just stay here, a-and I’ll go get someone to help.” You motion to the door with your hands and he looks up at your with big eyes. His lips are protruding out into a frown and he shakes his head vigorously. He scrambles back up to his feet and you immediately look away, as his full body was about to be exposed once again.
“A-are you hurt?” You ask while still facing the other way, although you didn’t see any scaring on him when you looked at him previously. “Is that why you don’t want me to leave?” His constant moving suddenly stops, leaving the room almost silent. “Hey are y-”
You suddenly get cut off when a pair of hands wrap tightly around your stomach, leaving you paralyzed as well. His full weight is now crushing you closer and closer to the ground. “What... are... you,” you say in between breaths. “...doing?” Just as you finish with your last puff of air, your face and the floor have a nice reunion, and it hurts like heck.
You groan lowly. “You better get off of me, or else I’ll-” Without having to say a word more, the brick on top of you is off. You slowly coil back up into a sitting position and allow your back to heal for a second. “What was that for?” You rub the back of your stiff neck while just now noticing the flaxen haired boy laying on the ground with his knees tucked underneath him, with his hands flat on the floor in front of him. His head is also dangerously close to touching the floor. “H-hey, you can get up now.” You go to touch his back, but realize once again that he’s unclothed.
You sigh while getting up to grab a blanket off of your bed. “This cannot be happening,” you mumble wile walking to your bed. You’re slowly taking in how bad of a situation this really is and you’re not sure what happens after everything gets figured out. Where will you live? Surely not in this room, if you can even call it that any more.
The light by front of the door of your apartment is still untouched, but threatens to go out by flickering on and off now and then. The boy is still on the floor in the same, stupid position, and you throw the thick blanket on top of his back. “Get up,” you command. His small body uncoils and the blanket rolls off of his back like it was never there. “Cover up,” you hide your eyes with one hand while pointing at the blanket behind him with the other.
You hear him shuffle on the floor underneath you and look down once the noise stops. He has the blanket sloppily draped over his head, but thankfully it covers the rest of him. “Get it off your head.” You demand and his form stays still and squatted on the ground. “You must’ve hit your head pretty hard,” you bend down so your almost at the same level as him, and start to peel away the blanket from his head. His doe brown eyes immediately connect with yours. He looks so innocent and unknowing of everything that’s going on, which makes your blood that’s slowly boiling calm down.
“Did you come from the roof?” You as while pointing up to a portion of the room the still has a ceiling. He shakes his head and points to the spot in the room where there’s no longer a roof. “So you did come from the roof then.” You suggest and he once again shakes his head side to side, but this time more aggressively, and continues to point up at non-existing ceiling. “What else is up there anyways?” You as while walking closer to the area of damage. “The sky?” You joke and laugh lightly, but stop when you see the blond haired boy shaking his head up and down eagerly. “You’re joking, right?” You say, not amused. He has a stern and serious expression.
“Y-You’re serious,” you finally say. You move back over to the bundled up boy and squat down next to him.
“You’re naked.” He nods. “And you came from the sky.” He nods.
You’re dreaming, right? Yes, it must be that. That’s the only logical reason behind all this. Once your idea of sleeping was sparked, you pinch your left arm. You’re still awake... crap. “This really can’t be happening...”
Raking your fingers through your hair, you try and make sense of things. “C-can you talk?” You ask him as if he’s some alien-being. He nods. “Okay, that’s a good start. Now, can you tell me how you got here?” He simply points up at the sky again through the hole in the ceiling. “Could you be a little more specific?”
He then points at you.
“You,” he peeps in a soft and small voice.
“What about me?” You ask, still not believing the situation.
“I came for you.”
