"Look, Mr. Knight," Amara said, her voice dangerously low, "I understand you're used to throwing tantrums and getting your way. But I run a business, not a daycare. My reputation isn't built on coddling spoiled pop stars like you."
Darien's jaw tightened. "Spoiled? You think this is about me being spoiled? This is about you undermining my vision! The stage design you proposed is... pedestrian. It lacks the impact we need. It's like a school play, not a headlining concert." He gestured wildly with his hands, the stone engraved in his ring catching the harsh overhead light.
"Pedestrian?" Amara scoffed, her arms crossed. "It's efficient, cost-effective, and, most importantly, it's functional. You want impact? I'll give you impact. But it'll cost you, and it'll require a level of professionalism you clearly haven't demonstrated yet."
"Professionalism? You're the one who waltzed in here with your 'startup' and your 'fresh ideas' and immediately started telling me how to run my show. You think you're the first person to tell me what to do?" He leaned forward, the scent of his expensive cologne filling the small backstage room. "I've built this from nothing, Amara. I know what my audience wants."
A flicker of something dark passed over Amara's face, something that spoke of a past she kept hidden. "And I know what a successful event looks like, Darien. I've seen enough failures to know what works. And frankly, your 'vision' looks like a recipe for disaster."
"Failures?" Darien echoed, a sneer twisting his lips. "Is that what you specialize in? Because you seem remarkably confident in predicting them." He paused, his eyes narrowing. "Or is it just a reflection of your own?"
Amara's breath hitched. He'd hit a nerve, a raw, exposed nerve she'd spent years trying to bury. "That's none of your business," she snapped, her voice trembling slightly. "And I suggest you stick to singing. That's clearly the only thing you're good at."
"And you," Darien retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "should stick to whatever small-town events you're used to. You're clearly out of your depth here." He turned away, dismissing her with a flick of his hand. "My manager will be in touch with the revised specifications. And if you can't handle it, I'm sure there are plenty of other people who can." Tearing his gaze away from the woman, he turned to his group mates, "We'll be practicing in the studio for now."
Amara watched as Darien and his group mates left the backstage room one by one to resume their rehearsal. The pent up anger seem to get the best of her, wondering if she'll be able to make this event successful while this man was around.
