The Unexpected Mate

Fish. As I wake up all I can think about is fish, which if that wasn’t odd enough already add in that I can’t stand it. The smell, texture, taste, blech. Yet for the past month I’ve woken up craving fish on several occasions. The first thing my best friend Renee said when I told her about the odd cravings was “Oh my word are you pregnant?!” Renee has apparently forgotten the small fact that I am still a virgin. Most werewolf females are until they find their mate, or at least they try to. Stuff happens!

We don’t find our mates until we turn 18, that’s apparently when the moon goddess thinks we are mature enough to handle a relationship and everything that comes with it. Which will be tomorrow for me! 24 hours lay between me and my mate, whomever he may be. My dad swears by the moon goddess that my mate is Sam, the son of our best warrior. Sam is being trained to step into his father’s footsteps and be the top warrior and protector of our pack. The perfect mate for the Alpha’s daughter, or so my dad thinks. Don’t get me wrong, Sam is definitely a panty dropper looks wise, but it’s when he opens his mouth that would dry up the Sahara. Arrogant doesn’t even come close to describing him. Sam turned 18 a month ago and is still mateless, which my dad thinks is a sign, I think the moon goddess is sparing a poor girl the pain and torture of being mated to him.

Who do I think my mate is you may ask? Jeremy. I have had a crush on him since we were cubs, when we were in middle school he pulled on my pony tail and I punched him right in the snout. We’ve been inseparable ever since. Sounds all good and super perfect right? Wrong. He only looks at me like a little sister. One of the guys. His buddy. His pal. Yippy skippy. But all of it could change Saturday, no I KNOW it will all change Saturday. The moon goddess has got to be on my side with this one right? Jeremy turned 18 last week and didn’t find his mate at his party, meaning his mate is not in our pack or as I know in my heart, I just haven’t turned 18 yet.

I can picture it now, I’ll be dressed in my new dress that makes it look like I have curves. Hair will be perfect. Make up will be on point. I’ll walk into the tent that’s decorated in thousands of white twinkly lights, and that’s when it will happen. We will lock eyes across the room and everyone else will fade away. It will be me and Jeremy, and he will finally see me as more than a buddy. We will walk in to each others arms and then he will say “it’s been you all along” as he’s leaning in to brush those gorgeous lips against mine. Closer, closer……

“Annie you better get your butt up before your late for school and look worse than you do already!” My little brother David ladies and gentleman. Interrupter of fantasies and all around pain in the butt.
