A Happy Little Tale

"This was an amazing cute story - I absolutely adored it. I think it would be fun to see more of it, like how people post accounts for pets on facebook and Instagram. I was left a smile on my face, and wanting more. I found your writing style to be interesting. I had never taken the time to read where the narrator was addressing me directly. I sincerely look forward to reading more from you."

short and sweet

"I felt like i was on Shanna's shoulder like a little fly watching it all... give us more!!! I like the feeling of old and new existing at the same time, and that having a dragon was not that big of a deal. just fireproof the house."

The Hatchling

"Ms Walker has a fun and witty style of writing that keeps you engaged throughout this tale. The main character of this story reminds me of my eldest daughter, always bringing home every stray she came across, but fortunately for me, she never brought home a (oops spoiler). Ross"

The Hatchling

"Berti Walker has a whimsical imagination, a dash of snark and plenty of writing chops that make her stories a pleasure to read. The almost accidental introduction of a baby dragon into this tale gave me a big smile. Highly recommended."

Dragon Owning 101

"This is a very unexpectedly cute story, especially since yo're not prepared for where it takes you: a simple dash to the apothecary (or pharmacy for us in the US) leads to an unexpected encounter with a dragon. Yet nothing dramatic happens: the hatchling, no bigger than a cat, is taken in and the couple discusses the most comically mundane issues: should they fireproof the house, etc.? It's well-written and completely straight-faced, which makes it all the more charming. And truly, if dragons did still exist, how would one take care of it? I can imagine this becoming a manual for taking care of your dragon--what vet would take it? What kind of food should it eat? Where can you give it some room to fly without terrifying the neighbors? Sadly, it's criminally short for such a fun idea, so I hope more chapters follow. For the top story in the contest, it does deserve its place. if only for being original and not afraid to simply have fun with the idea of owning a dragon."

The Hatchling

"It's a very amusing story that needs a little more flesh on the hatchling's bones. Light, temperature, sounds, descriptions of protagonists, home, surroundings, all those things draw the reader deeper into a story. The ending seems a bit of an anti-climax, could do with a twist or surprise ending...unless this is still work in progress? Having said all that, I really enjoyed reading the story, especially the dynamic between the two main characters, and it has great potential, as has its writer:)"

Critical

"Hi, I just read your story (only the first chapter) and I have a few things to say! I am going to be as critical as possible so you could work on your story and make it shine as best as possible (not that it isn't right now, but) Your first chapter needs to be very strong in order for it to attract other's attention. In my eyes, I think your first chapter could use more work! I think swearing in the first chapter right away is unappealing. I find that mean short descriptions work just fine! Just suggestions! What I really liked about your story is when the dragon hatched! The part how the protagonist hoped the elderly saying no to take care of the dragon was really well done. So applauds for that! The thing that did not suit me right was your writing style! I got confused at the "you" in the beginning of the story. The part in the dialogue. I would suggest you use Edgar, instead of "you" in the dialogue part. It makes it easier to see the dialogue. But overall, it's a story with potential and I strongly encourage you to polish it! Your writing style greatly effects your story!"
