noun

1. a small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. It is widely kept as a pet or for catching mice, and many breeds have been developed.

I got out of my car in front of the only good hotel in this town. It still didn’t compare to the ones in the cities but I didn’t care. I had heard that this town was filled with mysteries. Being an author crazy for discovering stories I decided to come here. Tourists visited this place very rarely. This town remained a secluded corner for the whole world.

There was of course a mental hospital in this town. Tourists seemed to turn mad over here within a few days. I had no plan of going mad any time soon. You could see this place wasn’t the most loved by tourists.

My school gave me a project to do in the summer vacation. We had to make videos and write about any beautiful place along with the people living here. The teacher wasn’t particularly happy to give this project to me because everyone in school knew how far I could go to solve mysteries. I had this thrill, this impatience to uncover any secret. I could smell it in the air of this town.

I knew I wasn’t doing this for the project but just to complete the desire I had to come here for days. But my parents didn’t know that. They were out in Paris enjoying their summer.

And I was here living my dream.

A man came out from the hotel and helped me with my luggage.

“Welcome to Grimalkins!” said the cheerful receptionist. She had a big Cheshire cat smile on her face. That’s what you would’ve called it if you had seen it.

She showed me to my room which was not a big beautiful suite but I couldn’t care less. My mind was itching to just go out and start getting into people’s businesses.

“You’re going to have a lot of fun here.” She said before leaving.

I matched her smile and turned towards the only window in the room.

I sighed, “I guess I would.”
