Summary

The Beseeching would always come at Norn. With its wrinkly and withered face, and black soul stealing eyes. How were we supposed to know we were next? “When the world was still bright Little crystal birds fluttered And darkness was only night Or shadows left unsutured But now the world is dark And the universe we know Has left its final mark With no light left to glow,”

Chapter 1

A song they used to sing in the days before and during the Hum, because it brought hope to the hënë people. And hope is a virtue many have long forgotten since the darkness had consumed the Orb.

“Eclipsa what are you doing on the balcony this late at Norn? You know it is time of the Beseeching to collect those out at curfew.”

Turning her slight heart shaped face from gazing at the crescent moon longingly, she saw her younger sister standing near but away from the moonlight creeping through the shadows. “I will be fine Cressida, the Beseeching have not caught me yet, nor will they soon. Think naught of the dangers of stargazing, but of the possibilities that lie within each light only seen at Norn,” explained the young hënë, stepping off the windowsill, but leaving the curtains open, so the crisp breeze could sweep out the stuffiness in the bedroom.

“It is true that they have not caught you yet sister, and it has only been pure luck that they have not. But they will, for all we know, the Beseeching could be watching us from your window as we speak. Here let me close the window for you,” replied Cressida sternly, making her way to the window. A soft and quick sound was heard. The sound, of you listened closely, could have been a song at one point in time, but this noise was only a sign of terror for those that are of hënë descendant.

Heika van Walderveen: I had to get used to the style. It’s a lot of switching and getting back into the story of the characters. Also the different timelines were a bit confusing in the beginning. But once you’re used to it, it’s really quite original. The plot is good, but it’s only book 1 (out of 3), but so far so good...
