A Solid First
"An solid start for a good saga. Filled with potential as we are given a dystopian society with a new and fresh air to what society, expectation, equal opportunity and rights are. Promising to be an ethical and action filled trip with dips and turns into the darkness of our civilization i am eager to read more. Imperfect as we are human, there are grammatical errors and perhaps phrasing errors as some ideas don't fully seep through. As the story progresses there is much to grow on and develop a really engaging story and world. A few more details and humanity to the characters could make us relate more and become part of this world. But that is a personal taste. Keep writing and i'm sure your story will take form into a beautiful, dark world we could come to call home."
Timely Dystopia
"This is a great story in the vein of much dystopian fiction today--Divergent, The Maze Runner, Hunger Games. etc., though it has a nice twist. It's a great opening chapter, giving context about this broken world without revealing too much--yet. The idea that society is broken up into numbers, Nines being some of the worst, is an interesting idea, and is certainly timely in our age of anti-immigration and neo-Nazism. The writing style elevates this story above many of its peers, since it's a very dynamic first-person perspective, engaging, and insightful. The author does a great job at capturing the fear and humiliation she feels when the Sixes mock her, or even the Eights push her out of the way, This excerpt works perfectly as a kind of in medias res Prologue, since it doesn't tell too much--it's all in the movement of the narrator into her train. In short, it's dystopia done well, and even if it betrays its inspiration in a half dozen similar books, it still stands out as unique and engaging. I hope to read more of it soon! (also, watch for a few typos--I remember that anyways was accidentally misspelled, etc.)."
