You've heard of the hunters, inspectors, and the investigators but have you ever heard of the seekers. I thought that I'd known everything until this moment when I actually realized that I didn't...
This morning was just like any other plain old boring morning I got up from bed and just looked at myself in the mirror. I had long brown stringy hair and a horrible figure, but did I care, nope I was beautiful in my own way. I looked in the mirror and thought to myself nothing special could ever happen to me I'm invisible to the human eye. Good thing that it was summer and I don't have to go to school, " Kacey hurry up you're going to be late for work!" my mom shouted from downstairs. Okay so maybe I didn't have school but I still had to work, I hate being sixteen. I ran down the stairs and saw what time it was, I was about to be late again, as I was about to leave my mom appeared in the corner. "Kacey if you're going to work you may as well look great for it," she finished as she looked up and down my choice of clothes. I couldn't disobey my mom so I did what I was told, the thing is I have no idea what to wear so I just put something together hoping my mom would not see what I had picked. Right when I was through the door my mom shouted from the other room, " don't forget to come home right after work so that we can surprise your dad for his birthday it's not everyday where you get to turn the big four zero." I wasn't the type of girl that you would call rich because I had the oldest car that you could imagine with only two seats and I had a flip phone, all my friends had a touch screen and I had a flip phone. I work at a place called Happy Burger, it's not the best place but at least I get to work with my friends. As I turned into the parking lot my manager was out in front of the building waiting for me, Mr. Crawford is the worst manager ever. "Late again I guess I'll have to cut your pay and guess what, you're on kitchen duty," he said with his annoying smile. I walked away trying to show that what he said didn't bother me when I actually felt like punching him in the face. I work with my two best friends Jonathon and Kimberly we've been friends since kindergarten we were inseparable. " Hey so how did it go with old man scrooge over there," Kimberly whispered to me so she wouldn't be heard, "oh nothing I'm just on kitchen duty," I said in a sarcastic tone. " Girl you seriously should get here on time I'm getting tired of it just being me and dummy over here," she said as she playfully punched Jonathon on the arm. "Hey at least I'm here at work not watching Tv all day," he said as he took someones order. I rolled my eyes at him and went to work the worst thing about kitchen duty is that there are piles and piles of plates to wash and I wasn't really a dishes kind of girl. I'm glad I actually finished though and without saying another word I went home for dads surprise. When I got home mom had decorated the whole house and dad was almost on his way " hey sweetie thank goodness you're here can you grab the cake from the fridge," my mom asked sweetly as she continued to decorate the house. We finished getting everything ready just in time because my dad had just arrived, got out our poppers and hid on both sides of the door. When he opened the door we popped the poppers and he nearly had a heart attack I guess that's what comes with old age. After that dramatic scene we kept going with the festivities, but as we were about to eat cake my dad smile disappeared. My mom knew something was wrong so she brought my dad into their room to talk. I came home early to be left out, I don't think so. I walked up to the door and put my ear up against the door to listen to their secret conversation. "Janice you know that I don't want to do this but I need to, the people of this world aren't safe and neither is our family," my dad said in a quiet tone. My mom then answered " it's alright Peter I'll go with you," and that was the end of the conversation I only heard half of it there are so many questions. I quickly got up and sat at the table waiting to eat cake, they both stepped out with smiles on their face as if nothing had just happened I was so confused. "Let's eat cake," my dad said in a cheerful tone the festivities continued until it was time for us to go to bed. I wonder when they're leaving not soon I hope.
