Summary

I was staring at him from the opposite end of the room. His face was just something you couldn't not stare at. It drew in your eyes like an accident on the highway. You didn't want to stare, you felt bad for whoever was caught in it, but you couldn't stop staring. It was blatantly obvious that he wasn't interested in the girl hanging from his arm. It was also obvious that she didn't know. That she thought he was staring at her in adoration, not in annoyance. I took a sip of my coffee. The girl reached for his arm. It was the 10th time she had done this in the time they had been waiting for their drinks. I had been counting. I know, I know. I should be giving them their privacy, but it was just too damn funny not to watch. I mean seriously. Who goes to a coffee shop in the middle of Berlin to break up with someone. A place where maximum social humiliation would surely commence. As far I could assume from the 5 minutes of them interacting since they set foot into the coffee shop and ordered, he was the one wanting to get rid of her. She was jaw-dropping gorgeous, so I didn't really understand his deal, but maybe she had a shit personality.

Chapter 1 Coffee Dripping Douche

I was staring at him from the opposite end of the room. His face was just something you couldn’t not stare at. It drew in your eyes like an accident on the highway.

You didn’t want to stare, you felt bad for whoever was caught in it, but you couldn’t stop staring. It was blatantly obvious that he wasn’t interested in the girl hanging from his arm. It was also obvious that she didn’t know.

She was jaw-dropping gorgeous, so I didn’t really understand his deal, but maybe she had a shit personality.

They took their drinks and sat down at a table. And sure enough, after 5min the girl stood up, slap the guy across the face, dumped her coffee over his head and stormed out. Not a single tear escaping her eye. I gotta say it was quite an impressing show to watch and it gave me a sense of satisfaction to see the guy dripping in coffee. I started laughing in spite of myself and in response I received an angry glare from the coffee-dripping douche.

Time had passed and I had finished my coffee when I decided it would be best if I started my journey back to my apartment. I stepped out of the coffee shop and the sunlight immediately hit my face and neck, prompting a smile to make its way onto my face. Cloud-free skies like the one today were rare in Berlin and I was happy I didn’t have to spend the day inside behind a register.

I walked towards Oliver Platz and got onto the M29 in the direction of Hermann Platz.

I was sitting by the window and watched my fellow humans enjoy the sunny day. Some of them were eating ice cream and laughing. Others were busy rushing from one place to next, sporting a very determined walk. It was quite hilarious if you think about how people walk.

Their walks change when they have a goal in mind. They walk forwards briskly knowing they have a place to be, when they don’t know or don’t have a destination in mind their walk often turns into a stroll or a saunter. It’s quite adorable if you ask me. Anyway, I was sitting next to the window on the bus and my stop was up next. I was planning on going for some ice cream since the hot coffee had made me crave some of the cold goodness.

When I got to the ice cream parlor I ordered a scoop of lemon, as I always do.

I enjoyed the sour taste combined with the sweet. I had always liked lemon ice cream every since I had been young. Changing my mind now would simply be foolish.

Finishing my ice cream quicker then saying lemon sorbet, I then made my way toward my apartment on Ku’damm.

The only great thing about having both your parents being successful doctors is them not even blinking when you ask them to buy you an apartment in one of the most expensive parts of town. Me not paying rent, was probably the only way I was still able to pay for my growing coffee addiction.

I am in Uni right now, studying to be a Professor of English Literature. Money wasn’t tight per say, but I did have to start looking for a room mate if I wanted to continue buying all the vinyls and coffee I had been spending my money on instead of food.

I wasn’t upset having to share my three room apartment with someone, to be honest I was getting somewhat lonely ever since my best friend had moved out to pursue her dream of becoming to world best laughing yoga instructor.

I wasn’t really sure if she was being honest at the time, but she seems to be having a hell of a good time in Peru, so I wasn’t as upset as I could have been about her leaving. She had just met this really attractive and charming five-star chef and I’m pretty sure they are making babies as we speak. I mean I can’t say for sure but the last time we spoke she was trying to tell me how he had used spaghetti to make her cum.

Needless to say I had screeched and hung up the phone. Jess of course being my best friend had immediately called back cackling at my state of distress. I smiled just thinking of the last time we hung out. One, well two words. Food fight. We had then spent two hours cleaning up the kitchen afterwards.

I never really understood the appeal of having a best friend until I met Jess. But with her it wasn’t really a choice. She kinda just picked me and decided to stick around. A good seven years later and that’s still the case. It would be hard to fill her shoes, or rather the empty room she left behind in my apartment, but I was determined that I would find someone I didn’t completely hate to rent the room.

Opening the front door to my 4th floor apartment and taking off my shoes felt amazing as always. That I had air conditioning was just an amazing add-on. I walked into the kitchen and fixed myself some dinner while on the TV the browse section of Netflix popped up.

jo987_123: This is a good story, but it needs a good editor to go through this iteration and fix the mistakes. The pov changes from 1st person to 3rd person, often, and sometimes within one sentence. It needs a liberal sprinkling of punctuation marks throughout, and a decision needs to be made about the char...
