Chapter 1
Sophie’s POV (Set a few days after Nightfall)
I had gone to visit Alvar today. Watched him try to remember. Watched the mental pain he was going through. One thought kept returning to me, no matter how many times my friends tried to convince me otherwise. It was my fault. If I had never come, so many Elf’s would still be alive. Mr. Forkle, for example. Keefe might have still been happy. The Vacker family might had still been happy. Dex, Marella, Tam, Linh. I ruined all of their lives. It was my fault. I vaguely heard my Imparter ringing and answered the call. “Yes?”
Fitz’s face filled the screen. “Are you OK Sophie? You look tired.”
“I’m fine. I’m OK.”
Fitz didn’t look convinced, but he said, “Oh, OK then. I was just wondering if you wanted to come over for a sleepover. Biana really wants to give you a makeover.” He smiled at that.
I sighed. “Sure. Just tell her to go easy on me.”
Fitz nodded and ended the call. I changed into my white tunic and black leggings. It was my job to make them feel better. They still cared about me. If I lost them...? Fitz seemed worried though. I should try to be normal. I got my things together and walked to the Leapmaster. “Mom! I’m heading to Everglen for a sleepover!”
“OK Sophie! Call us tomorrow!”
“Everglen! I called. A crystal lowered at I stepped into the path of light it created and leaped to Everglen.
Fitz’s POV
I was worried about Sophie. She had been acting strange all week. Maybe a night with Biana will make her feel better. Biana is setting up the stuff for her makeover , looking better then ever. You can barely see the scars anymore.
“Fitz! What did she say?” Biana asked, her face nervous.
“She...seems OK. She said to go easy on her.” Biana made an evil devil face and shook her head. I smiled and walked to the door to meet Sophie. She was already there, dressed in her normal clothes. She looked so normal, with a smile on her face. So Sophie. Her brown eyes alight. Maybe this would help her.
“Fitz! How are you holding up?” She asked as I got to the gate.
“I’m doing really well, thanks. You?”
“OK...only I’m NOT looking forward to this makeover. Please tell me she agreed to to have Mercy on me!”
I shook my head. “Nope. But...she’s saving it till morning, so you can go to school with a makeover!”
“Oh please kill me now!” Sophie groaned. I laughed and raced her to the house. Biana came out and I saw Sophie stiffen, eyeing the scars. But she quickly relaxed and hugged Biana. “Let’s go have some girl time, only no makeovers till morning.” Sophie said, her voice muffled by the fabric. Biana nodded and pulled Sophie off to her room.
Sophie’s POV
“Sophie are you sure you’re OK?” Biana asked as soon as we closed the door. I am really starting to hate that question.
“Well, aside from the fact that I’m dreading that Makeover and telling you what I’m about to tell you...yeah.” I’ve heard all it takes is a fake smile and they will believe you. So that’s what I offered Biana and she took it.
“What are you going to tell me?!” She asked, not missing a beat.
“It’s about boys.” I said. Biana squealed.
“Who is it? Who is it? Whoisit Whoisit?” She was almost bubbling over in happiness.
“Fitz.” I said simply.
“YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS” Biana screamed.
Fitz popped his head and asked “Is everything all right?”
“It’s more then all right!” Biana said. Then she collapsed into a fit of giggles. I guess my fake smiles where working. Maybe I could fight this.
