Chapter 1
Jamirah
I stood alone on the hill, the wind blowing through my half braided hair, the highlights shining a medium brown in the sunlight. I was alone yes, but I had long grown cold inside, all except for my best friend.
I watched as she ran along through the forest in wolf form. She tackled rabbits catching food for her mini pack, the rejected pack. The outcasts we were called. She was Alpha, me second in command.
We were all cast aside for different reasons. Me for protecting a human, Percy for being trans and gay. Amy for being the first ever female Alpha. We had our reasons for hating our old packs, for more than just being kicked out. Amy never spoke of her old pack even though the rest of us had countless times.
She remained silent and distant for years with us and had just now started coming out of her shell. Though she never even said one word about her being kicked out. It was quite obvious she was an Alpha, but she never used her dominance over anyone. Not once.
She bounded over to us, rabbits dripping blood down her sleek, silver and dark gray coat. Her head was silvery the rest a dark gray. I wasn’t quite sure what kind of wolf she was, not in the slightest. Percy was a Midwest wolf while I was an Arctic wolf.
She dropped them down into the fire, having skinned them with her fangs, they were sharper than any wolves I’ve ever seen before. She could cut down any Alpha with those, so how… how was she thrown out? She was an Alpha, she could have fought, but she chose to leave.
It makes me fear, I fear that she will leave us to fend for ourselves instead of staying to fight. But… when we found her… there was blood on her coat, but she had no wound.
This Alpha… who was she really? Why was she secretive? And why, when she was surrounded by so many people, why did she always look so alone?
What are you hiding Amy Nicole Rose? Why, why after all these years have you finally decided on a stage name? One, that you said fit you better than anything.
Nightmare.
Amy
I looked over at Mir,” You’re thinking again,”
She shrugged,” So?”
I turned over the rabbits in the fire,” I have something I need to tell you…”
Percy walked over and sat beside me,” What is it?”
“I know you’re all wondering why I’m alone, not with my first pack,”
Jamirah nodded,” We have for years Mare,”
I sighed, I knew this day would come, but I was ready now… or was I? I opened my mouth and froze… I can’t tell them. I choked, my mouth going slack. I bit my lip,” I-I… guys I’m sorry. I’m trying, I really am trying to tell you the story but… I’m not. I’m not ready. I know it’s been three years but… I can still hear, see, and smell everything that happened,”
“I’m sorry,” I whispered.
Jamirah set her hand on my shoulder,” That bad huh?”
I nodded dropping my head into my hands,” I’m sorry. It’s just… I-I I can’t! No matter how hard I try, the memories just put up a barrier. The only thing I see, smell, hear, think about. All that ever runs through my mind is what I’ve lost, nothing of what I’ve gained. I’m sorry,”
“Don’t be. Just know we’re here for you when you need us,” Mir murmured.
“I know… I know,” I whispered softly. The depression settling in.
