EARTHBOUND 2240: The Soul Snatcher

It has been almost 200 years since man met his maker and almost destroyed the world. The ultimate war between powerful global nations played out in the mid twenty-first century. Shy of nuclear holocaust, The Great War changed living on earth drastically. Because the internet satellites were disconnected from earth’s computer servers during The Great War of 2059, centuries of survivors relied on memory and word of mouth for information and advancement. Generations of people in this new world lived and repopulated earth without the knowledge of their old world history. These societies were doomed to repeat ancient follies and mistakes as civilizations reemerged.

The fallout of The Great War of 2059 produced a diminished human population, demolished cities, broken vehicles and machines, and a powerful, radioactive cloud that travels across the globe, raining toxic chemicals and altering climates and typographies along its path. Over the last couple of centuries, this toxic atmosphere has created vast mutations and deformities to organic beings. Some of these mutations are advantageous to that being’s survival, while others appeared to be the punch line of a scientific joke. Some of nature’s apex predators have evolved into unstoppable killing forces with no fear of or concern for human life.

Some humans have also evolved to a higher state of being. They have developed a special connection with earth’s energy and its elemental powers. These sentient beings can display supernatural abilities and command over the earth. Some witnesses believe that these humans were developed to inspire mankind to its full potential. Some of these mutated or enhanced humans have formed a religious order and vow to protect earth and mankind from entities and agents that inhibited world progress. These elevated monks were known as Mage Warriors.

Since the year 2220, a military entity has provided stability and security for major cities, states, and nations to grow and prosper. That entity is known as THE SUPREME ALLIANCE. Territories around the world are able to rebuild and flourish because of the laws and rules, resources and security provided by THE SUPREME ALLIANCE and its mighty army. Through force and reason (or reasonable force) THE SUPREME ALLIANCE has become the world’s governing body.

Smaller kingdoms and nations have sprouted around the world over the last century as well. Some of these tribes and kingdoms have retained their cultural knowledge from the old world and are self regulated. Unless they pay some form of tithe or tribute to THE SUPREME ALLIANCE, those tribes and kingdoms are deemed rebel states and enemies of The Alliance. Some of these kingdoms exist within the boundaries of THE SUPREME ALLIANCE. Some of these kingdoms have joined forces with other rebel nations that regularly protest Supreme’s dominance around the globe. Various rebel armies, units and soldiers have formed strongholds, safe houses and forts to combat Supreme forces and influence.
