prologue
In my day and age, the meaning and value of death meant nothing. It happened so frequently and so often that it lost its meaning, so much to federal law allowed it to be displayed on television. People enjoy it, they love the thrill of watching someone struggle for their life. Fictional characters meant hardly anything to anyone anymore, people would much rather see and hear stories of real people clinging onto life.
One of the greatest shows ever to be seen by the people is the Vitality Show. I detest it, but at the same time I watch it. It’s the perfect combination of drama and survival. The concept of the show is to go from the top of the world, to the bottom without human contact. It takes months even years for a season to last. A season concludes when the last contestant dies, and they always die. Nobody had won it yet, and their sweet bounty of 25 billion dollars goes up. Nobody is forced to go, they submit an application. 10 people get selected, and you’re given seeds. The lower the seed the better equipment you start out with. Everyone starts out with one backpack full of supplies that help you start up. The show is just messed up. You’d think the producers would choose the best suited people, but they don’t. They choose two strong survival guys, a few strategic people, and then the outcast. The people whose lives were so miserable, they were willing to do anything for 25 billion dollars.
Once your chosen, you can’t back out. Your literally forced to go to the top of the world and fight for your life. There was a case on this three years ago where a guy signed up his friend as a joke. Turns out he got chosen, he tried his best to back out. However the corporate lawyers the Vitality Show has could sell dry ice to the heat miser. The Vitality Show obviously won, and the guy was forced to try. This case was televised globally, so of course everyone wanted to see if he could win. MORE AD REVENUE!! It was filmed by drones always flying near you, and a small mic stitched into your cloths. If you intentionally went to go find humans, depending on the severity, you were either sentenced to death or life in prison.
Now I know what your thinking, who in their right mind would do this. Well my name is Donovan Baker, and with the help of rum, I submitted one steamin’ hot application and was accepted into the Vitality Show.
