Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Destiny W.

I squealed as we dove straight through the water, soaking our shirts. “I love that ride!” Dante exclaimed, throwing his hands up to show his enthusiasm.

“Me too, although it was a bit scary.” I said shyly, burying my face into his shirt. “Aw don’t worry, your knight in shining armor shall save you!” He said, raising an imaginary sword to the air.

“Let’s go to that ride next! Fight the dragon for me!” I said excitedly, running to the ‘Spiraling Flames’ rollercoaster ride. I grabbed his hand and dragged him away from the ice cream shop and to the ride.

That memory hit me like a truck, repeating as if it was mocking me.

I smiled at the picture, selfies of us in the amusement park, and pictures of us during the rides. Oh how I missed him, wondering every minute where he was, if he was okay. Hoping that our argument never happened, and that everything would go back to normal.

I collapsed onto my bed, after a few minutes staring blankly at the ceiling, memories collided with my mind.

“What’s this?” Dante asked, his whole body trembling and shaking with anger, “What’s what?” Confusion laced in my voice. “This!” He roared, shoving the picture in my face. It was me and Thomas, my co-worker. I was wearing a black laced lingerie, kissing him while climbing onto his lap. “That’s not me!” I shouted angrily at him, “Then who is it?!”

“I don’t know! All I know is that that’s not me!”

“How do I know it’s not you?!” He screamed, throwing the picture to the ground and stomped on it. I picked it up and looked at him, “Do you have no faith in me at all?” I whispered, clutching my jacket closer, as if it was the only comfort it could offer. “Do you even trust me?”

“I do! But this is evidence that you’re cheating on me!”

“Have you ever thought that this could be edited? Or do you just jump into conclusions?!” I said, sobbing, not daring to look him in the eye.

“Look, I know what I’m looking at, and it’s the fact that you’re cheating on me.” He said seriously, glaring at me, I didn’t reply so he said, “Get out.”

“What?” Did I hear him correctly? Was he really kicking me out? After 2 years of love and happiness? “I don’t want to live with a cheater.” He said, turning away. Never in my life had I been this angry, “So 2 years for nothing right?”

“I don’t want to talk about it.” He gritted out, walking to our bedroom. His bedroom.

I guess it had to end like that. I knew that my happy life wouldn’t last very long, so I just made the best of it.

Suddenly, my phone rang, “Hello?”

A gruff voice sounded from the line, “Is this Destiny Wales? Sister to Jason and daughter to John Wales?”

“Yes.”

“I’m sorry- “

I dropped the phone, my heart was beating so fast, I felt blood rush to my cheeks and my forehead started sweating. No, no, no! It wasn’t true! It’s just a prank call, everything was perfectly fine at home.

I thought of the first person to call. Mom. I dialed her number and waited patiently for her answer.

“Mom?”

“Babe? Let’s continue what we started.” A faint voice was heard in the end of the line,

“Mom?” I croaked out, was she…having an affair?

“What is it Destiny?” Mom snapped back, “Did you know?”

“Know what?”

“Dad and Jason are dead.”

Silence.

“I didn’t know.”

“While they were dying you were in another man’s bed?” I shouted angrily, “Your dad was stressing me out, I just wanted you to get into college early, and he kept on saying that you weren’t ready.”

“That’s not the point! The point is that he worked his butt off for the family, you? You just use his money and party all night! Maybe even get a fuck buddy!”

“That’s not how you should talk to your mother!”

“You’re not my mother!” I hung up on her. The throbbing in my heart increased, how could she? Everything’s falling apart, I don’t know how to fix it.

I picked up a photo, of me, Dante, and our families, and ripped it apart, tears flowing freely down my cheeks.

I climbed over the fence, holding tightly to the bars. Looking down from the rooftop of the building.

There was nothing to live for.

I lost my family, I lost my only love, and I lost my job just before the fight.

I put one step out, and fell down the building.

“I’m sorry.”
