1. The Beginning
“Subah ho gayi mamu…. mamu… re mamu… ” The
alarm in mobile shouted, Neil searched for the clock
waving his hands in the direction of sound, with half
open eyes he pressed the snooze button and went to
sleep. This was nothing new. Everyday Neil would decide
to get up early and start with a healthy lifestyle but his
sleep would always take priority in the morning and he
would keep snoozing the alarm. Till finally when he
would hear his mom shout at him… “Neil…. Its , you
will get late to office... get up… this is the last time I’m
calling! DID YOU HEAR THAT … ” slightly her tone
would turn into a warning which would finally wake up
Neil.
Neil finally got up from his bed, still feeling tired,
rubbing his eyes he picked up the brush and toothpaste,
while brushing his teeth he moved the window curtains
and opened the window… It had rained last night, the
fragrance of soil after first rain filled him and his mood
freshened up instantly, watching birds fly to work he
recollected he had to meet Rikhil at CCD today. That
thought acted as an action booster and he hurriedly
started preparing for the meet. He got ready, looked
himself in the mirror, “Wah… kya lagte ho Neil… ”
saying he threw a flying kiss to his mirror image and fled
downstairs to have breakfast.
“For once put that off your ears and listen to me… ” his
mom shouted at him pulling his headphone from his ear..
“Mom… what’s wrong with you.. it’s MJ playing…. my
favorite… ” he paused his player and looked at her with
question mark… “What?? What is it… tell me… ”
“I’m not going to wake you in the morning for all your
life... I’m tired cooking for you now… why don’t you
find a girl for yourself who will lessen these burdens of
mine… I’m tired now... can’t you see?”
“Ok… mom… I will get a maid from tomorrow who
will cook my food wash my clothes… to lessen your
burden.. ”
“it’s not about a maid… chinu.. ”
“I know… now don’t start that topic again.. Once I find
that girl I will surely take no time to propose her and
bring her home. But till then please no more chats on this
topic. ”
“Look at you… You are so handsome, good personality,
You have a perfect office, car, home.. what else does a
women want… you are a perfect desirous to be
husband… why will any girl say no to you? Have you
ever liked any girl… have you proposed any girl?? ”
“That’s the whole problem na ma.. I’m so perfect... won’t
I need a perfect partner?? ” saying so he winked at her…
“Once I find her I promise I will not make any delay… ”
finishing his breakfast he ran to pick up his car keys…
“Bye Dad... see you in the evening… ” he said rushing to
the door. His dad just lowered the newspaper peeped out
for a sec nodded to himself and thrust his head back to
the newspaper…
“Why don’t you say something to him... he has reached
marriageable age now…
“Don’t you know? He wants to do only love marriage”
“But... I don’t see any progress I think he is fooling us, we
should start seeing profiles for him and ask him to
choose from a few selected ones”
“Suaisha… these things are not to be hurried… if he
marries for our sake he will not keep the girl happy nor
will he be happy, but if he marries for his happiness he
will always take care for her happiness, give him some
time, all good things take time and so is this; so you calm
down and stop bothering him” saying this he again thrust
his head back in the newspaper…
“You both father and son will never listen to me… ” she
murmured to herself as she picked up the empty cup of
tea and moved to kitchen.
At CCD…
Neil waited for Rikhil watching the movements around
while listening to his ipod sing… “Andekhi.. anjani si..
pagli si deewani si.. jane who kaisi hoge re.. ” It was
drizzling outside, A hot cup of coffee with drizzle...
wow!! He exclaimed to himself as the temptation rose in
him, he wanted Rikhil to arrive eagerly to have the coffee.
While surfing for him in every other face around, his eyes
stopped at a pair of eyes, they were... looking sad... such a
nice day and so much pain in the eyes, Neil was bound to
think…. He kept looking at them… tears were flowing
from them and somewhere Neil did not like that. He was
mesmerized by the eyes, he kept looking at them, at the
tears as if they wanted to tell something to him.
“Sorry Buddy.. ” Rikhil’s hand on his shoulder brought
Neil back to senses.. “I thought you would have got
bored.. but here I find you have found a source of
entertainment huh? ” Rikhil said giving a casual look at
the girls’ next table whom Neil was staring, without his
own knowledge.
“Huh…What??? ” Neil gave a puzzled look to Rikhil,
“Come on let’s have coffee and then discuss” Neil tried
to neglect those eyes and make himself comfortable.
While having Coffee once in a while he looked at the
other table, the other girl was trying to console her but
she was not even listening. She cried her heart out. Rikhil
could sense the discomfort within Neil and he said..
“Why are you so worried… it might just be another
breakup yaar... these girlsss, You know na, how they
are… she will cry for some time for now and next
moment she will find someone else… you leave it.. Let’s
plan our trip tomorrow… ”
Neil just nodded and they discussed their GOA trip that
they had planned for almost a month and finally the day
had arrived, everything was sorted out, the transport, the
stay and the vacation. It was after a long time they were
going on a vacation and Neil wanted to make it all
perfect. Rikhil was his cousin, they both had planned a
family get together but they wanted it to be memorable
and refreshing. Both being of same age shared all secrets
with each other and were like more than brothers, they
were best friends, reachable for the other any time of the
day, they knew each other very well. After the whole
discussion, out of the bloom Neil said to Rikhil “You
know why it rained today?” To which Rikhil signaled he
had no clue. “… because… she cried… she is in pain…
even the God’s could not see her pain, so even they
cried….”
What??? Came the only response from awestruck
