Shades of The GodFather (and I mean that in a good way)
"I really enjoyed the reading of this story. A great synopsis that helped prepare and drove me into wanting to read the story. A great story and narrative to be told overall that, to me, saw inspirations of The GodFather or Jane Austin, but rather than address the mobster side but focused more on family side. I felt that the characters were rich and compelling and made me root for them throughout the story being told. It is an ensemble slow burn with many moving pieces that has an emotional payoff whenever it is all said and done. Well done to the author for being open to the inspiration of penning such a powerful piece of work. God bless you in all that you do and put your hands to."
I WANT MORE!
"I thought this book was very intriguing. I couldn't get enough. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the story. Please let me know when you publish the rest. I can't wait to find out what happens to poor little Mary. I hope she lives."
Captivating
"So far I find the story captivating. I find the sentence structure a bit short and clunky, so eliminating some of the repetition and combining some sentences might help with fluidity. It's a little hard to follow characters at first, but by the end of the chapter I was caught up and wanted more! Your description of James made me feel I knew him and loved him like a grandpa."
Deserves Support
"This was a very enjoyable novel to read. The author has constructed a story in two time frames to cover the early relationship of two protagonists and their later involvement in the story of an orphaned child. Both stories are sensitively drawn and the characters are realistic. The two central stories carry you along and sustain interest throughout. I highly recommend it as a novel which, with a little work, will achieve 5 stars regularly. The author has produced a novel which is dramatic, intriguing and well developed. I wish her every success with it."
It's Alright
"First of all, this isn't the type of book I would like to read in real life, as I'm clearly not the target demographic. But I found myself skipping sentences and paragraphs out of boredom, looking for where the story really starts. I know that in the first chapter you were mostly filling us in on what's happened in the past, but you already did that with the blurb and both were extremely hard for me to read. The sentences just didn't flow well in my head. It might help for you to learn about the rule of "show don't tell", where you introduce characters taking part in the plot instead of describing them to the audience directly. Besides that, this story has lots of potential and plenty of intrigue, after all the exposition."
