Prologue
“No, Adair! Please!” Aldara screamed as two bulky, werewolf guards dragged her to the palace doors. “You can’t do this! Adair, please!”
Adair, the Emperor of Vampires, ignored his twin sister as he walked alongside the guards. Aldara fought against the hold of the two large men, but to no avail. The doors opened and Aldara was thrown outside into the rain. Her hair and clothes were quickly soaked. She raised her glowing red orbs to her brother.
“Adair, I’m your sister! You can’t just throw me out!” Aldara shouted as the rain pelted her already soaked form. “This is my home! Where will I go?”
“You threatened my mate and our child,” Adair said calmly, though his gray eyes held much anger. Aldara lowered her gaze. This was true, but the powers coursing through the child called to her. “As far as I’m concerned, I have no sister so you no longer have a home here. And quite frankly, I don’t care where you go.”
“ADAIR!” Aldara screamed at her brother’s retreating form.
Aldara’s eyes widened when she caught sight of her brother’s mate, Kachiri, the Empress of Werewolves. Lowering her gaze, Aldara saw her niece, Kailani. The child was no more than two years old and she harbored immense power. She stared at Aldara with her big liquid amber eyes. Aldara stared at the spirit mark on the child’s forehead as the heavy doors of the mansion began to close.
“Kachiri?” Aldara called, crawling towards the doors. Kachiri raised her honey-gold gaze to Aldara. “Kailani!”
Turning away, Kachiri grabbed her daughter’s hand and the two disappeared down the hall. Kailani looked back at her aunt one last time.
“Bye, Aunt Aldara,” she whispered.
“Kachiri, no!” Aldara yelled. “Please, wait!”
The doors slammed with a thunderous boom. With a low whimper, Aldara stood from the ground. She kept her head bowed as her tears mixed with the rain that flowed down her face. Thunder clapped suddenly and Aldara raised her tearless, hardened red-eyed gaze to her family’s castle. How could he do this to me? she thought. My own brother. The worst part was that she had to obey. He was the Emperor now. But that did not mean that she would pass up on a chance at revenge. Lightning flashed across the pitch black sky behind her.
“You won’t get away with this,” she mumbled, backing away from the large building. “You hear me, brother! You will regret this night, and I shall have my revenge!”
11 YEARS LATER
“But Adair—!”
“Kachiri, we must!” Adair stated, watching his daughter practice her martial arts with her instructor. “It’s the only way to ensure her safety. Aldara’s on the move.”
“But her soulmate—”
“Isn’t here!” Adair cut her off. “She has to rule with someone. We can’t keep waiting.”
“The Elementals said he was out there,” Kachiri said.
“He could be dead for all we know,” he said with his gray eyes boring into her honey gold ones.
“You’re right,” Kachiri sighed, looking out the window. “We must find her another.”
The two watched as Kailani excelled in speed and strength. She was going to be a great ruler, and the first of her kind; a vampire/werewolf hybrid. Adair and Kachiri stepped away from the window. It was time to find suitors.
