Prologue

In this world many speak of the legend of the Red Thread of Fate. The legend tells of a bond between two souls. The two souls connected by a red thread are said to be destined lovers. Legend says that when born and even before that, two souls are connected by a red thread. In human mythology, the tie between souls is made by the God of Marriage. In the werewolf world the same red thread is created by the Moon Goddess. Humans think of this legend as nothing but a dream. It is rare for a human to truly find their destined partner or their other half. When they do find their other half though, many don’t recognise it as such. In the werewolf world the thread is known as a soulmate bond. From the time they are born werewolves are taught about the mate bond and what it represents. From then on, every werewolf is dreaming of the day they meet their other half and in their long lives the fact that one day they will find their mate is the only certainty. But like any living thing werewolves are not without fault. Some wolves choose to turn their back on fait and reject their soulmates. Werewolves reject their soulmate either because they think they could have a better mate or because their pride is in the way. But in both cases, when rejection happens and the red thread of fate is cut both souls don’t survive the separation.

When a rejection takes place, in some cases the Moon Goddess takes pity on those who were rejected by giving them a second chance. The rupture of the thread is a rare occurrence, but when it does happen the Goddess choses to give the rejected party a second chance mate. For those who break the bond she grants them a life without a soulmate as a sign of mercy and forgiveness. If their worthy some are given another mate as well.

Then, there are those who lost their mate before their time. Those cases are very rare. In some cases, the mate is born earlier than they should and thus die soon after. The Moon Goddess grants them the gift of rebirth never breaking the red thread that connects the two souls. When the soul whose life was lost prematurely is born into the world once again, they are without memories of their last life. Only the longing for their soulmate remains in order for the broken souls to be brought together once more. Upon rebirth they will look the same as in their last life, with small differences in appearance or speech. Their personality will remain the same, changed only by the community they are born into.
